Whats the difference between a "fetus" and a "human"? When is the line drawn?

I know that technically this isn't true but I feel that as soon as that baby is conceived, it's a human. I just have trouble seeing the difference. It's living and breathing inside you so how can you not call it a human. As you can tell, I'm really against abortion. And that's one reason. Okay, I went off the subject. Sorry!

I agree. Once that baby is conceived it is a human. Killing it is wrong. Its murder.

To me, they are the same thing. I know scientifically they are not considered to be the same, but I believe a "human" begins at conception. I know that a lot of people will not agree with me at all and that is ok. I'm just telling what I believe to be truth.

I agree with you. This is why I think abortion is so wrong.

A fetus is the unborn young of a mammal and is called a fetus after the 8th week of conception. Before then it's called a embryo....because none of the major structures have formed yet and it doesn't resemble the adult mother yet. It doesn't matter....if it's human or animal....after the 8th week of pregnancy the fetus is refered to as which ever the species the mother is from.So if you are talking about a human fetus....the line is drawn at 8 weeks....but not between human and fetus....but between embryo and fetus.

The word "fetus" is Latin for "young one" or "offspring." The fetus has everything present that will be found in a fully developed adult, which is at about eight weeks for humans. The heart has been beating for over a month, the stomach is now producing digestive juices and the kidneys have begun functioning. Forty muscle sets have begun to operate in conjunction with the nervous system. The fetus' body will now respond to touch, although the mother will not be able to feel movement until sometime in the fourth or fifth month. Any kind of viviparous animal carries a fetus, whether it is a bear or a human or a rat. Some sharks even give live birth and therefore carry fetus.

Human is classified as mammals and when we say fetus, it is the unborn offspring of a mammal (either animal or human), but the term fetus is normally used to classify human embryo. So in your question what's the difference between "fetus" or "human", I will say none because it is also from human.

Personally i see it as when a foetus finally becomes capable of independant life, ie away from it's mother, without needing to be attached to/inside of her. This isn't necessarily when the foetus is born, it can be months before that, as often babies born prematurely survive and are capable of independant life. Not sure exactly how you'd be able to tell when a foetus finally becomes capable of independant life, guess that's one for the scientists to discover.
