Dysthemia (Dysthemic Disorder) I know is a chronic depression. What would be the best medication to help? Right now I'm on Zoloft and it's not really helping. I feel needs to cut myself when I get REALLY depressed...and some label that as "emo", although I do too... I also cry when I really can't handle anything at that moment, like one time my parents were fighting. My poetry is really getting out of hand, it's more violent that usual and I'm not a violent person. My attitude towards others is changing, but that seems like its for the better... my point is: I need something to get me back on the right track. I want my life back. Can anyone please recomment a medication OR METHOD that will get me back on my feet... unlike other people, I want to do something about it. So, please, tell me what you think would would, especially if you're a doctor, or P.H.D or therapist or just a really nice person. Thanks. : )

I have bi-polar disorder and have found out in a group therapy session that what works for one person many not be as effective or work at all for another. There is a website that you should check out called "achangewilldoyougood" and a group called NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill or something close) that can help you. Check out these resources. Get the help that you need. It may take some time, but eventually your Psychiatrist will find a medicine that works for you without unwanted side effects. Good luck.

NAMI is only in the United States. If you are in another country there should be similar organizations to help you.
