my daughter's toy box becomes such a mess and over full in just a few months. i cleaned it out and she keeps every little thing so there was a garbage bag full of garbage i took out of there. papers, broken toys. so on. then i got half a bag full of toys to donate. old toys she doesn't play with anymore. mcdonald toys. i can't beleive how much i got rid of. do you clean out your kids toys often and get rid of stuff. her b-day is comming up next month so now there is room for new toys. i usually get rid of stuff right before her b-day and right before christmas.

Yes we do this often! We throw out broken stuff, and donate stuff they dont use, or give it to a younger sibling. Last time we cleaned out the oldest two's toyboxes we had like 5 garbage bags of trash! and we could have done more but we had gotten so frusterated with the whole thing we stopped after 5. It's amazing how much junk they accumalate.

I can't believe how much stuff a kid can accumulate in a short time. I have a 20 year old granddaughter that is this way. She collect McDonalds toys just because they are cute. She also had different soda bottles. She like Tigger abject de art We just cleaned her room. And some of the junk that we threw out was ridicules. She like company when she has to do her room. We found sales receipt tags from just about every thing. She is a hoarder. So is her dad. I hope that when she gets her own home she will do a better job of putting garbage in the garbage.

It is unbelieveable how much crap you find in a toybox. I clean mine out all the time and I still run across things that I have never seen before. What I think is strange is if I am pulling a bag of garbage out every time I clean it, why doesn't it seem like there are less toys in there? Are they breeding during the night? lol

Oh how I can relate to this post! LOL I clean my son's toybox out about 4 times a year. Two of those times are close to his birthday and Christmas. I can get rid of a 30 gallon trash bag full of stuff and it doesn't seem like I put much of a dent in the toybox. It would help some if his grandparents stopped getting him so many stuffed animals that he doesn't play with. I keep telling him we need a room just for his toys. Haha!

Good for you! I try to go through my kids' stuff at least once a year. We keep special toys... lincoln logs, blocks, legos, and barbie things. Just about everything else goes to the garbage or charity. It is funny how quickly all those things build up in such a short period of time.

I try to do the same as you. Right before Christmas we go threw the stuff together. MY daughter is 7 and she hords everything! She loves to draw and saves every picture she has ever made, painted or colored. I finally went and got her a nice box to put all her artwork in to keep. At Christmas time I tell her that Santa will see that she has too much and won't leave her anything unless she gets rid of some stuff~ I'm bad! We were so busy this year that we didn't get around to cleaning before her birthday. I did send her to her room one day with a garbage bag and she put one care bear in it and said that we could sell it at the garage sale. Of course, it was a $35 care bear that she just got last year! I have to do the clean out soon! It is amazing what they accumulate.

My girls do that too. The other day, they came down with one plate, one fork, and the lid to a pan from their kitchen set. HA HA HA!

I know, they will bring one or two things to get rid of and think that they cleaned out! Funny kids.

When my daughter was younger I used to clean her toys out right before every holiday. She would not like when I did this. she never liked to get rid of anything even if it was broken. My daughter is now sixteen and when I have my yard sale in the summer time I still have to watch that she doesn't bring some of that stuff back into the house. You have to get rid of the old so that you can make room for the new.

I used to go through my daughters toybox also about once a month and throw stuff out. I bagged up quite a few things also to donate to the Goodwill. She had so much stuff and she also got alot of toys from resaturants back then. My birthday is next month also. What day is your daughter's birthday on? Mine is on the 23rd of June. My daughter is now 15 years old but I still go in her room and clean stuff out of it every so often. She is a little pack rat and it drives me crazy.

You know, i did the same thing as your baby when i was a child. i kept EVERYTHING. If one of my parents or grandparents gave me a band-aid to play with, i kept it. i felt that if i threw it away, i would be thrwing awqay their love. Also, i kept all the Happy Meals toys and whatnot. i never knew when they would come in handy! LOL! i did get rid of them eventually and donate to charity...but i kept a lot of the old things and had my dad put them up in the attic. It got to the point where he told me i couldn't put anything else up there, so i had to put things above my closet. Now i have boxes of stuff up there, too...i really really need to get rid of stuff.

I try to do it every few months, because all the little "crap" toys they get from MsDonald's and all aren't worth keeping around unless they really like them, like the Shrek ones now =) But I do a major clean up before Christmas and birthdays too so we can make room for new thngs. I tell my 6 year old that she won't be able to keep her new presents that she gets if we don't have room for them, so then she is willing to get rid of some of the old things!

I know what you mean. I couldn't believe it when I cleaned out his room last weekend as we had visitors and with all the toys he's accumulated, I couldn't believe my eyes!! I sat down with him and went through them all and had him choose the ones he wanted to keep. I ended up with one full bag and most of them were broken or had parts missing.

All of my kids are grown but I used to clean out their toy box about once a month and put some toys up and then bring them out when I cleaned it out. It was like new toys when I put them out again.

I often go through the kids toys. They always get so messy. It doesnt get better when they get older either. They start getting into the craft things, and have bits and pieces everywhere. I always go through before christmas, because they get so much more stuff. I try to donate things that are still in good condition. Best wishes to you.

I call it the "great toy box clean out"! We have 3 toy boxes, one general, one in my son's room and one in my daughter's room. We clean them out before Christmas and before each of their birthdays - which is nice because one is in January and one is in June (it is almost time to clean out!) It is amazing what accumulates in them. I always feel such a sense of accomplishment when it is done. . .it is a big job!
