What would you do if you hit someone's pet ?

If you were driving and you hit someone's pet what would you do ? Would you try to find the owner , would you move the pet to the side of the road or would you just keep driving ? Would you feel remorse for hitting an animal or would you blame the owner and feel they should have been watching there pet more closely ? When you see an animal on the road do you try to avoid the animal or just keep driving and whatever happens , happens ? I would be devestated if I hit someone's pet and would try to find out who the pet belonged to but have realized that many people in our area just keep going . We have had so many cats that have been hit over the years because we allowed them outside that I now refuse to allow any of my pets outdoors because I fear that I will lose them .

This happend to us a couple years ago. A dog ran out in front of us and of course there was no time to react. Well I started crying. I got out of the car and picked up the dog. I took him to the first house I saw which just so happens to be where he lived. I explained to them what happened. They were so cool about it. The woman saw I was very upset and told me to stop. The dog will be ok and she gave me a hug. Oh I felt like S***!!!!! Well they took him to the vet and found he had a broken leg and some brusing and that was it!! I went and bought a whole bunch of dog toys and treats and took them to him!! He seened to like them and his owners thanked me for being so nice and helping there dog instead of just leaving him there!

That was so nice of you as so many just don't seem to take the time to find out or even care anymore about someone else's pet . Thank you for your response .

My daughter came home from school one evening in tears. She had hit a dog and it ran away. She could not find it. She insisted that we go back with her to look for it and to tell the owners. we went back but did not find the dog. We knocked on a door and they said that they had a dog like that. Our daughter gave them our phone number and offered to pay vet bills if they needed to take it to the vet. Later that night the phone rang and it was the owner. The dog had wandered home without a scratch on him. We decided that she must not have hit him afterall.

I bet your daughter was so relieved . I would have had such a headache waiting to find out if the animal I had hit was hurt or not but it was a good sign when she couldn't find the dog and thankfully he was alright . Thank you for your response .

My boyfriend hit a house cat one night. It was dark and he couldn't see it at the edge of the road until it was too late. He didn't stop, but he did feel really really bad for having hit the cat. I'd probably react the same way as he did even though stopping to find the owner would probably be the "right " thing to do. I don't think I could bring myself to tell someone that I had hit their beloved cat with my car and killed it. Your probably smart in not allowing your cats outside. Owners that do should put them on a long lead instead of letting them roam free.

I have a very soft corner towards animals. I like animals a lot.. and when it comes to pets I am very much concerned again... first of all I would try not to hit any animal while driving no mater it may cause damage to me....and in case I hit any.. I would carry the pet to the nearest hospital and also find the owners .....

I love animals and I cry if I hit a squiral. If I ever hit someones pet (and I pray I never do) if it is still alive I would put the poor thing straight in my car and drive it to the nearst vet no time to look for the owners and hopefully the poor thing would have a tag once at the vets office I would then contact the owners and explain what happened and tell them where their pet and I could be found.

I would stop immediately and check on the animal. Then I would check for a tag around its neck and if there is none, would take it to the vet to get scanned for a microchip and get them to contact the owner ASAP to inform them that their pet is at so and so location. Since I have hit the pet I will be responsible for the bills IF the owner wants his pet to live. Some pet owners out there just dont care and that breaks my heart. Being mad at the owner is not gonna solve what had happened to the pet. It would be merely a lesson for the owner to learn to keep a better eye on them next time, but also the pet could also have escaped too and that he might have been looking for his pet. U never know the full situation, but I know I would cry my heart out for the owner and myself if one of my cats had to be run over. Thank goodness they are all indoors.

Hey, I for sure would take the pet to the vet if it is still alive. And if it is not I would also, maybe the pet is chipped and the owner can be found... If someone would hit my pet I would also want the person to do that. I would be worried sick if my pet didnt come home at night..!

I couldn't just drive off like that. I would have to find the owner. And I would probably get hold of the authorities so the animal could be disposed of properly. I couldn't just drive off. I know one time a long time ago, a big dog ran out in front of me. It was at night and a bus of some kind was coming from the opposite direction & it look like it hit the dog then the dog hit the front of the van i was driving. I got out but the dog wouldn't let me get near him. He kept growling. Which I understand why. He was so scared. Then another person stopped and the police came and they ended up taking the dog away. I don't know if he make it or not. I hope so but at least I know he was taken care of. I see so many animals just laying on the side of the road.

I would definitely stop and check on the condition of the animal and move it if necessary. I'd also check to see if it has any tags indicating who it's owner is and I would contact them. I'd like to think that someone would do the same for me if one of my pets was run over.

If I were to run into someone's pet, I would do the right thing. I would try to find the owner, if i couldn't find the owner I would definately remove this animal from the road. I think that its sad when someone just runs it over and doesn't try to find you, of course most of the time this probably happens late at night and people dont' notice until its too late. However i'd do the right thing, it would be a good thing to find the owners if I could.

If this happens by me then i would stop the vehicle and take that pet and see the condition of it...If it is badly hurt then i would take it to veterian doctor or a nearest hospital and also try to find the owner of that pet...
