What do you do if your kids won't eat the supper you made?

How do you handle that? Do you make something else for them? Do you tell them if they don't eat their supper, there is nothing else to eat until breakfast? Or make them sit at the table until it is gone? (I'm talking ages 4 and up.) Sometimes they say it is because they don't like it and sometimes they tell me they just aren't hungry. If it is a new recipe, I tell them they must try a little bit and if they truly don't care for it, sometimes I'll give in and offer them something else. If it is something I know they like, I won't make them anything else. My kids are starting to be good eaters and will eat almost everything I make. But it wasn't always that way. I was just interested to hear how other parents handle it.

When he or she gets hungry he / she will eat, so I don't think you have to worry about that :-) Better for a kif to go to bed hungry than go to bed after eating junk food because he / she didn't like what the grown ups had.

I was worried about this for a long time. I even started giving my daughter pediasure to make sure she was getting enough nutrients, but the doctors all told me that she will eat when she's hungry, and not to fix her something different, because then she will come to expect that, at every meal. So, they will eat when they are hungry!

I've rarely experience this with my 1 and 5 year old. I usually have a family meeting and we plan a month in advanced what we want to eat. The children and my husband will help me pick out the groceries, (healthy food choices). If I try something new I use ingredients that I know everyone in the family enjoys.

I take care that my children are given hygenic food to cover all important ingredients for their growth. But they are sometimes not interested in having it. Especially my younger daughter who is four years old who prefers sweets. I normally sit by her side and serve her the dish with my hands during such times. I explain her how this dish would make her strong, intelligent and beautiful. These things have an impact on her and she takes the diet. However if she dosent love the taste at all i make something else of her choice.

I make them wait until the next meal. Everyone else here is right, they won't let themselves go hungry. If you give them an inch then they try to take a mile. i iused to panic about my son and he still is a picky eater but the docotrs always say they will eat when they are hungry.

well though i'm not talking about my children as i dont have one yet, i'm talking about how i manage my niece and nephew of age 7 and 5..... they keep playing all day and night and they dont bother to eat anything, be it breakfast, lunch or supper..... someone has to go around them and keep feeding them.... my nephew is worse, he need his mother to feed him always.... my niece is ok, she eats but we have to call her thousand times..... they mostly ask for noodles, fried rice and all that fast food items.... we give them lotsa fruits and vegetables, and also health drinks.... because they should a good complete diet..... we also give them dates and almond.... its really good for them.....

My son pretty much went hungry or he had a PB & J. Iwould not make a special meal for him or give him something else. If he wanted the PB&J, he had to make it himself. He was a picky eater, he dissected his food. He did not like onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, raisins, oranges, cherries, strawberries, chicken and more. He now likes chicken and claims he eats onions. I have not seen him eating onions yet.
