Do you think we're doing enough to prepare for a pandemic?

What a selfish ****! Can you imagine if you were on the plane with this idiot. This is why I feel that when a particularly virulent strain of the flu hits, we are going to be devistated. All it takes is one person infected to get on a plane, go to another country, and they could potentially infect thousands of people. Is there something we can do to prevent this, or is the pandemic inevitable?

No I do not, but I think government officials and their loved ones would be protected. What really amazes me is how dumb people really are. This guy with the TB was told not to fly, flew anyway because he was getting married, then flew back instead of seeking proper treatment wherever he was, and then the idiot border patrol that let him back into the states because he didnt look sick, and what about the idiot doctor that new he had tb and didnt have him in strict airborne isolation until he had 3 neg smears, what kind of a dumb !!! was he? I can guess the doctor that because the patient was a lawyer he would follow doctors instructions and not travel or unduly expose himself to others, oh please. If anyone gets sick from this total moron lawyer from georgia, I sure hope he can defend himself in a court of law becasue i would sue his lawyer pants right off.

It's scary how a pandemic could occur...you're right it could take just one infected person to start things going...almost sounds like that movie "Outbreak" There have been pandemics throughout history--do you remember not too long ago there were actually noted cases of the plague right here in America (around the Arizona area I believe) Here's a link to some info on pandemics. http://www.cdc.gov/mmwR/preview/mmwrhtml/00048352.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Pandemic http://www.pnas.org/cgi/content/full/96/4/1164 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pandemic The main problem as I see it, is that we are at fault ourselves...by this I mean that nowadays we have gone a bit daft with all those anti bacterial cleansers....this is creating stronger strains of virus and bacteria making antibiotics worthless -- so the whole thing is a scary concept..
