Here in the Philippines, we often have celebrations. Some are for fiesta, birthday, anniversary, graduation and etc. Most filipinoes would prepare food and love to cook for the visitors to come. That's why family ties are strong here since we often gather during celebrations and parties.

Here in India, we have the same culture of celebrating birthdays and anniversaries and all. We also prepare different types of dishes at home, then we prepare cake or get it from market, decorate the house and celebrate it very nicely. This helps us meeting family and friends frequently and enjoy with them.

am now 27 and i still do this.. and i agree with you that family ties are stronger here because of these celebrations, more of a family reunion.. but unlike when you are kids where you invite all your classmates, now its more of a family gathering celebration.

Good for you, and me too! In our company, we were allowed to enjoy a birthday leave. If you happen to work on the day of your birthdate, or it falls on holidays and weekends, you can file a leave within a month from that date. Its great not working on your birthday just spending time with a family reunion. Have a nice day my dear friend!

Good for you my friend. Not everybody can spend time with celebrations nowadays. Most of them do have hectic schedules and over times in their work area. Family reunion is a great way to strengthen the bond. Keep it up. God bless!

That is true also here. We order foods instead of preparing them since we lack time. Sometimes it is more practical to have a caterring service than have it by yourself. We can save time and energy, but we need to spend more money. LOL. Thanks for relating with the topic I made. God bless!

For me parties are not like eating or drinking as i am happy but its the time when i be with my family and friends in order to see and have personal meetings so that we should really get to know what is going on because now a days one don't have time even to ask a friend about his health of plans so i love to be in parties in order to find my friends and ask them how are they and family parties always have good impression on ones mind because family members are one who will and are caring for you even if you are not with them.

You are absolutely right my friend. Parties/celebrations are a great way to communicate with family and friends. Eating with them and telling stories about the activities you have when you did not have to time to meet them. Thanks for being nice replying my friend. GOd bless!

That depends, since most of the things here is "do it yourself"....I will prepare food and invite some visitor only when I have the time and money for it (since things is quite expensive to throw a party regularly). But I try to always celebrate my daughter b'day....by inviting family, her friends and our friends. As for my husband and my own b'day party we prefer to celebrate it by dining out or just going somewhere and doing something special together with my daughter (sometimes with my other family and friends). I like preparing food but it is also nice if I won't be spending the whole time in the kitchen cooking with smelly clothes and running back and forth asking and serving my guest/ visitor....at least not on my own birthday. But if I get some extra help....I might celebrate more often....

Cooking demands so much money and effort and work. Extra help is really needed for bigger celebrations. Spending time with our family and friends is really great. Thanks for sharing your insights my friend. God bless!

When i was younger, i invited a lot of people on sandwich party with sandwitches and cake. Now i prefer to invite just a friend or two anywhere outside-club or restaraunt.

Most of the kids celebrate birthday parties. According to my high school teacher, kids celebrate because they are very thankful to reach the age they have. However, according to her, the adults seldom celebrate birthdays, they try not to remember another addition to their age. LOL. Thanks for posting this woderful responce my friend. God bless!

Food is a big deal with my friends and family. Even on days where there is nothing to really celebrate like a birthday we will have people over and eat.

Don't we all enjoy get togethers and nice food here in the Philippines! I think it has become more of a culture to celebrate whenever there's an occasion, and to make an occasion in order for us to have a reason to celebrate. :) We love parties, bonding and chit chat with friends and family while enjoying the different dishes we deliciously prepared.

When ever there's a celebration here in my family specially birthdays. I personally plan it if I can afford to have a little party in my house or just to go out and spend some time to eat in restaurant and go to the movies. I want to be practical sometime and if gathering a party you know that in our tradition inviting one is a must to invite others coz they will get mad at if you will not invite them. And for me it is not so practical now a days that It's very hard to earn money just to treat others.

Planning ahead for a party is best to achieve a better budgetting. Sometimes it is practical not to prepare to much because some food might just be thrown away. Money is not easy nowadays, so it is important to budget and consider the number of visitors. God bless!

Filipino culture often prepare food for celebrating festivals. Preparing food is also done sometimes by assigning each member of the family or clan. I remember one time when we went for a fiesta celebration at Tagbilaran, Bohol. My aunt assigned each relatives, also visiting member of the clan, to prepare food and to assist in the washing and preparing plates/etc. Its really fun to be gathered this way.

For birthdays here in the uk most of us have parties and celebrations for birthdays, christmas ect, and invite family and close freinds to celebrate with us. It is not something everyone does but is extreemly popular, I think less so tough when we get older except every decade celebration. The main ones once you pass 16 are 18,21,30,40,50 ect. I think it is nice that you can gather so often but with teh UK being such a busy place with everyone rushing about sometimes it is hard to get all the people you care about in one room at once which is a shame.

Thanks for giving your insights. I know most of you are in a busy country or place. I am lucky to be in a not so busy country and we enjoy eating out together most of the time. We celebrate almost every year. But for those who can't afford we seldom prepare more foods. We can just celebrate with the family and just have some food enough for like 5-10 persons only. Some very busy people here also celebrate that way like every decade or the ages you have mentioned. God bless you my friend, see you around in mylot!

yeah of course foods and visitors are kinda important in a celebration. as it keeps the party to go on... and makes people more happy with the occasion.. hehehe... but what really matters most is the presence and their true friendship to everyone... that would make the celebration better...

In the Philippines food is something that completes a gathering for it is something that we look forward. We prepare food in speacial occasions but its more of a very private thing for us specially on birthdays. We dont celebrate fiestas coz mom does not like so much preparations, we just go to our relatives living in the compound with us and celebrate with them.
