Writers: Deadlines

Writers: do you wait until the last minute to complete your assignments, or do you plan your time well so you're not right up against a deadline? I'm asking because I messed up royally. I have *six* articles due TODAY and I've only done the research. They're only 400 words each about vacationing in Maine, so that's not too bad. I have another, a book review, due Wednesday . . . which I have also not started. I used to be very good about organizing my time and planning assignments out so this wouldn't happen . . . but that was *before* I was juggling college and a family. How do you handle this?

Are you spending too much time on mylot :P ?? It's an addictive site, I find myself keep coming back. Hey, Pal you have to be responsible to your work ya or else your credibility will be at stake. Every time when you procrastinate a work, remind yourself you want to be professional and complete your work on time. BTW, where do most of your writing projects come from? Can share?

Good morning! Yes, you're absolutely right, this site is VERY addictive! hee hee I find the majority of my writing projects by querying editors and employers I find on these sites: http://www.freelancewriting.com http://www.absolutewrite.com (the forums has a paying jobs link) http://www.writersweekly.com http://www.journalismjobs.com http://www.mediabistro.com http://www.sunoasis.com http://www.poewar.com http://www.craigslist.or/wri (I visit all of the major cities listed on this site.) http://www.writingfordollars.com When I have a particular topic, I'll search for markets on http://www.writersmarket.com or I'll visit the library to browse magazines for their Writer's Guidelines and editor contact information.

Thank you for being so generous to share :D I've recently left my job heading the in-house agency with tons of stress and at the same time defending off a 60-year-old boss who's constantly trying to get me to be his girlfriend. I love to write and is committing myself to write full-time at home. Pls welcome me to the writing community :P

I feeel really satisfied whenever I finish a piece before its due. Deadlines are sacred for me, like if i wasn't able to finish an article on time,I feel really bad. But of course, I am just human so I still find myself struggling really hard and squeezing my mind for an idea just to beat a deadline. Whenever that happens,I choose to forgive myself. Maybe writing, deadlines, and cramming are words that go together. But I really don't know what is it about deadlines that makes my mind speed up. It's like a fuel that mkes me work!

During the semester, I try to focus on college. So that means that my writing is rather low-key during that season. I take on very few assignments, and don't do too many proposals. Another thing that helps is to actually try to do your long-term homework in sections. I do my term papers a little at a time, and I have learned to study for exams in ten minutes sections. Of course, this means that I am always busy doing something, but I was never much for going out and drinking in the first place. ;) So how long have you been in college?
