Follow Up To Would You Let Your Kid Do This?

In my original discussion, I asked if you would let your kid take a charter bus to a seaside resort with his friends after the prom. I got some great responses so I thought I would share what happened. Well, they left on the bus about one in the morning after the prom, but the bus driver took them an hour out of the way to the wrong place. So the first lesson they learned was to make sure the bus driver knows where they are going before you leave. When they got there, they realized the place they rented wasn't all it was cracked up to be, still they made the best of it and are on their way home today. My son called me last night though and since I had already spoken with him twice that day I asked him why he called and he said "I just wanted to tell you that I love you".

I think your son was very nice to call you to say that. You must be a very good parent. You trusted him to go away for this trip and he has been sensible. I think he learnt quite a lot about travel in a short space of time. Sometimes bus drivers get the route wrong. This happened to a bus I was on a few months ago. It took ages as the bus had to go back round a one way only route. Also accommodation can be much worse that expected. Your son did well to cope with these problems. I am sure this experience had amde him more mature.
