I know it sounds disgusting but there are people who just do this while they are eating, intentional or not. It makes that hideous sounds and the smell that with it just horrible. This really a bad manner especially when they fart during meal time. Have you ever eaten with someone like that? Does it bother you or will you continue eating? Some people find it hilarious while others find it just unacceptable. Will you tell them to mind their manners especially if the person is an elderly?

Yuky disgustting, I experienced it one time. I was in my friends house and were eating and my daughters friend who is 8 yrs old fart while eating. It's ok if the fart with sounds without bad smell but oh my gush, I can't describe whats like the smell of it. I just dis continue what I'm eating. My friend told me that her daughter loves to eat plenty of rice thats why her fart has very bad smell.

I know you would't believe it but her fart is not like for child like her it's like an adult fart smell, and I know her mother should teach her a nice manner about that coz she knows what the smell of it.

Hi lynboobsy11, I think when a child did that it is quite acceptable. But when an adult do it, it is just too much. Thanks for your response.

I work with an elderly lady who volunteers where I work at and she farts regardless of time or place. I don't think she can help it though. She eats a lot of cabbage which is known for causing gas issues. She will be talking to you and "bbbrrrrttt" there it happens. I fight the urge to laugh and continue with the conversation as if nothing happens, but sometimes the odor is overwhelming and I have to end the conversation and leave the area. it is pretty bad! LOL

That is true, it is one of the more common problems with the elderly. they tend to be more frequent about it and not so discreet in their older age hahaha! But it is ok, I try to be as kind as possible and not bring attention to it!

Hello mamasan, I can understand how you feel. It must hurting trying to be polite while at the same time trying hard to control from bursting into laughing. My mother always pass wind and it really loud. I guess it is one of the commonest problem for elderly. Thanks for your response.

that is horrible. i do fart but i don't fart while eating and while others are eating. that's too rude to do so. when someone farts while we're having our meal, i stop and look at the person and tell her/him he's/she's rude. and that she/he should go far when doing so so people won't lose their appetite. it's natural to fart but atleast try to be decent about it. when it comes to elderly people who can't stand up anymore and are sick, i guess it's okey since it's reasonable. but still, i will lose my appetite as well.

I don't remember such an occurance in my memory. If ever it happens it surely will be disgusting. It is violation of basic manners. Quite indecent.

I have a friend that does it all the time, he cannot control it. I think that the smell is horid and very unpolite, however he can't control it so I do not blame him. Whenever he is around I try not to sit very close to him, as the smell is very very bad. I once almost threw up because the smell was so horid, is a sad thing that he can't control it. Hopefully whoever he ends up with will accept him for that, and not find offense in it.

Yes, it was funny remembering one child here in our neighborhood. When we have our children's time ministry right after it I let them have their snacks at home and the funny part is while they're eating, one of the children just farted right there where they eat at and they all begun laughing to one another and tried to let the smell go away :-)

Well it must be a cultural thing. Certainly where I live this kind of behaviour is not acceptable eating or not eating. It is true that elderly people sometimes have a hard time to control their bodily functions but there is Gasex and Beano, both tablets that you can take to control the formation of wind in your body. I have been in the company of people who accientally broke wind but they were so embarassed the situation became uncomfortable for all those present. I must say though that sometimes teenagers and immature boys find it hilarious and do it amongst themselves.

Hi Lindalinda, it is not acceptable also from where I live. But there are just people who think that they can pass wind anytime they feel like it. I also know that there are who like to compete with each other who have the loudest sound. Thanks for your response.

Farting while eating is not given much notice here where I live. Anyone can do that. Now, if you can fart and burp at the same time, that's special!

Hi redyellowblackdog, I think when someone is farting and burping at the same time, its only mean that they have too much gas inside their intestine. I have come across someone who has that "speciality" and he is huge!lol Thanks for your response.

Yes, I have to put up with this quite a lot. Both my huisband & step son fart a lot, including during meals. My husband can't help it, as he has IBS, & he tries to move away quickly if he feels this is going to happen. My step son does it deliberately, more or less, & it is foul. My daughter & I laugh at him when he does this, to try & get him to be more discreet. After he has been to the toilet the smell is unbelievable. It is the takeaway diet his mother feeds him on. We have a perfumed spray in the toilet.

I find this not only rude but disgusting . My brohter in law used to come over and do this all the time and thought it was funny . One day I told him that if he ever did it again that I was going to spray him like an animal and sure enough he did it . I went and got a bottle of Febreeze out of the cubboard and spayed him with the bottle . Everyone at the table laughed so hard and he was completely stunned , but I can tell you that he never did it again . I can understand that one might not be able to hold it in but at least get up from the table and walk to the bathroom , it really isn't that hard to do and at least respect those in the room as no one wants to smell that let alone hear it . If it was an elderly person I would suggest that going to the bathroom would be the proper thing to do and that we don't want to teach the children bad habits and that I would really appreciate there help in this matter .

Hello,ellie26,i have ever had these experiences few times when I was having dinner with a group of friends.During the meals,we suddenly felt a stinking smell and we noticed that someone had farted,we pretended nothing happened and continued to eat. It did not bother me eating as the smell had disappeared soon. I do not think it is unacceptable,it is something normal, but it may be embarassing. If you really feel like you want to fart during meals,it may be better to go away from the table to prevent embarassment.

I don't think it is intentional. You wouldn't want the smell of rotten eggs spoiling others appetite, but it come at a time when you least expect it to explode and you are caught by surprise too. Just take a joke out of it so as not to embarress that person who fart especially elderly person.

lol. I think it can be controlled. Wouldnt it be nice if you just excused yourself and go somewhere to "explode". In that way, you wont be caught by surprise yourself or to anyone surround you. Some might be able to take it as joke but others who are really enjoying their meal and suddenly come a mini "explosion" plus that awful smell especially in air conditioned room, it is really an appetite turn off. Thanks for your response.

Well it really depends on who's doing it. Some people simply can't control it for medical reasons. I just grin and bare that. Other folks who do it on accident.. eww, but I just laugh it off. The ones who do it on purpose and follow you around talking about it are the problem. 'oh man did you smell that one? that was great, I love chicken...'

I think that farting while eating is disgusting period! it's not funny, its not a joke! I leave the room if I have to pass gas...its the right thing to do and its respectful. This is not only a guy thing... I know some woman that are worse than men in that area. I know its a natural bodily function, but cmon there are ways of not making it so obvious. I can understand if it slips....that can happen, but I cannot tollerate the competition thing, where one person is trying to outdo the other.

Hands down it's disgusting... I cannot mouth my food when that happens while I am eating... It's gross out... Lucky thing, I've not experienced it on my table before... If does happen, I would get pretty annoyed and I may walk out without finishing my food. It's very rude of that person for not excusing themselve for doing that.... Yucks!!

What to do, what to do in a situation like that. Yes I have relatives that visit that seem to enjoy their farting. I have hated this since I was a little kid. I thought people shouldn't do this in the presence of each other. We don't go to the bathroom in front of family so why fart in front of them. Especially when it isn't just a little slip here and there. I hate it! On the last visit with my relatives I tried to joke we will have to put them outside. It didn't go over well according to the looks on their faces. I guess they new I wasn't really joking! But I really hate it it has been a pet peeve with me since I was a kid like I said. I have a friend who also has no problem with this either. I am no fun to be around I guess.

I guess it would depend upon the company I was with. Either way it is disgusting but if I was with a bunch of my friends I guess we would find it kinda funny. If I was out at a business function and somebody was doing that...it would be a completely different story. cheers,

nope.I won't tell that to the person if he's an elderly but to a young person. So far,I haven't experience it yet being with someone who farts during mealtime. It would be so disgusting and shameful. Why can't they just excuse themselves for a while and go a distant. That's the ethical one.
