Hairspray - The Movie

Wow! Will there be a film version of the musical? Or is the movie something that was made before the stage musical? I must see it when it comes out! As I live on the other side of the Atlantic from Broadway, it's difficult for me to see the stage version.

For any true fan, you would know that Hairspray itself did not begin with the broadway musical, but with the original Hairspray by John Waters starring Rikki Lake. I fear that John Travolta, from what I get out of the previews lacks the Maryland accent he trys so hard to achieve (all John Waters films are set in Maryland and filmed on location), also he could never fit the place of Divine, there isnt quite another character out their such as he/she was. Ugly yes, but created the character none the same. Im looking forward to seeing and critiquing it farther, im a huge john waters fan, and cant wait until the unveiling of Crybaby the musical, which once again was an original musical film from the early nineties starring Johnny Depp, and of course featuring Rikki Lake.

I hope I can watch it also.
