Valentina Tereshkova is not the first woman to go to space. She is just the first woman who made it back. The first woman was unidentified female astronaut who went to orbit the earth at 1961. Unfortunately Russia was not able to retrieve the capsule she and the crew stayed in, and they never returned. What could have possibly happened besides them dying?
