Do you eat your fruits first or last?

I do. I heard that fruits are easily digested and they are supposed to be eaten first before the main dish. I also observed that it's a good way to avoid eating too much because fruits are highly fibrous and they make you feel full easily. Hi, yes i have also heard and read that fruits eaten first and beofre the meal, do the most good to us, but its sad that somehow very few of us follow this. Reasons can be many, for me i dont have them first no matter how much i want to, as if i do that, then my kids will follow suit ,and once they eat fruits then they wouldnt like to eat normal food. So, i also have to avoid this, and eat them after the meal, the kids also do that, but they have it as their mid-snack time meal too, so they are alright and yet hungry for their meal too.

Thanks for replying, yes i do it mainly for my kids, so that in some form or the other they follow me, as at this young an age we are their role models, and i want them to have a proper healthy diet, which has to be well balancd in all ways too.

hmmm.. yeah, i've heard about this also. fruits are suppose to be eaten first before you eat the main dish. what ther pupose of this is actually it can help your food disgestion. it also could avoid you from eating too much, which is bad for health.. =) for me, i would love to eat sweet fruits first before i eat.

Most fruits are digested in half an hour to 2 hours, as compared to 8 to 14 hours taken for regular food. So, fruits should ideally be eaten 1 hour to half hour before eating your lunch/dinner. What it does is, it helps better digestion of the fruits and since they are digested quickly, the regular food after that is accepted easily by the stomach. Where as if you eat fruits after lunch/dinner, since the food takes 8-14 hours to digest, the fruits just stay and keep rotting and emit gases. So we feel our stomach is bloated and we have a lot of burps. Its not healthy to do that. Ever since I read this information 3 years ago, I've been practicing this. It makes me feel more healthy.

I eat them at no particular order actually. he he he! Sometimes I eat them first or in the middle of the meal or at the last. I like to play with my food and has the tendency to turn my food around in my plate that whatever I feel like eating I just eat.

Well, of course it's fun to play with foods but normally I I believe there's a better way to do it and if you can read Someincome's comment you will get more enlightenment on the issue.

I like fruits also, but eat them whenever I finish eating lunch. I never knew much about that, because there are fruits that can make our stomach ache. So I thank you for providing this good information, I know can enjoy eating fruits even before the main dish was served!;)

You're right about some fruits that make our stomach ache especially if we ingest them in the morning when our stomach is still empty. Acidic fruits are really not good for empty stomachs like mine. I can't eat pineapple first thing in the morning and most sour fruits or any that contains acid.

I had never thought of or heard of that until now. I have never ate fruit before I eat my meals. I like to eat watermelon after I eat my full course meal. I think eating any kind of fruit or dessert may spoil your appetitie for the main dish. I'm sure it does curb your appetite though when you get ready to eat your meals.

The idea is not to spoil your appetite but to ingest those fibers before you take in the non-fibers.

Yes, wee supose to eat fruits before meal.It's not only helps for better digestion it also contains high fiber which helps to improve our bowel movement as well.I usually will eat fruits before my meal.

I'm eating a bowl of strawberries right now after finishing my lunch. I think it's a little strange to eat them before a meal, here in the UK we would usually consider them as deserts. Unless the meal is breakfast or lunch.

I like to eat fruits in between meals as a snack so I avoid eating too many other things..the fruit sugasr keeps my sugar levels even so I don't crave too many sweet things..I have chocolate a couple of times a week as a treat rather than every single day as I used to lol. I am a chocaholic and so have to be very very careful..lol..

I hate all forms of sugar as well except in the form of chocolates and fruits. LOL! Ice creams don't appeal to me very much and so cakes, candies, and other sweet stuff. Fruit sugar is all I take almost all the time. I don't even like soft drinks because of the amount of sugar in it. I think if we get enough sugar from fruits we won't crave for anything sweets anymore.

I eat fruits after food, I don't need to lose weight so I just eat it as desert not as a way to feel full, also i read you can drink two glasses of water before you eat to feel full if you need to lose weight.

Well, Wildhorse, it's loosing weight that's being pointed out mainly here, it's the aiding to the digestion. By the way, I want to congratulate you for having a good body I suppose since you mentioned you don't need to loose weight.

heheh that was my very purpose before, I want to be filled with fibrous fruits before indulging myself with meats and other heavy meals. But there's more important reason for it like it prepares the digestion.

yes,it is true that fruits are to be eaten first and not after a meal not for the main reason of initially getting filled up but for the reason of digestion.you have to work up your digestive system so by the time you go to your main meal ,it would be digested well.
