How would you treat a jammed thumb?

I have been having pain in my thumb since a month now. It hurts when something hits it when i first got it jammed by playing soccer (Being goalie). Right after the injury i put some ice to take the swelling away and the swelling did stop but my thumb still hurts. Any advice on how i can treat thing thumb so i can stop haveing pain?

My son did the same thing to his finger when he was playing basketball. The doctor suggested to ice it and then just take some pain killers (tylenol or advil) to relieve the pain. It hurt him for many days, but they said there was nothing to do for him. Good luck.
