I've always heard that Shepherds Pie was a good way to recycle dinner leftovers. And, a thrifty, money saving meal idea too. I would love to serve this classic dish to my family, too! But I just don't know how it's made. Could you please share your favorite recipe for Shepherds pie?

I love Shepard's pie and have made up my own recipe for it. I boil up potatoes and mash them with butter and milk. Meanwhile I fry up a pound of ground beef and a couple of onions add salt and pepper and bisto(gravy mix) and water until it is in a thick gravy. I also squirt a little Worcestershire sauce in it. Then I add a can of peas and carrots. I mix it all together and place it in a casserole dish. Then I top the meat off with my mashed potatoes and put it in an oven at about 350 degrees for about 30mins or until the potato starts to brown. It is quick and easy. If I have leftover roast I substitute the ground beef with cut up chunks of the roast. My secret ingredient is a little vegimite or marmite but as most people don't know or have those they aren't important, it tastes good without too.

You probably won't see this unless you've returned to the new and alive myLot, but my mother would grind down her leftover pot roast with the side veggies and mix the leftover gravy with it. That would be on the bottom. Mashed potatoes would go on top and then it would be put in the oven to heat throughout. You could also finely dice the roast and mix it with the unground veggies and gravy with potatoes on top. Most just use ground beef browned and mix with those same leftover veggies and gravy (or make new gravy) with the potatoes on top. It's not difficult. Just make sure it tastes like you want.

As you wrote rcycling leftovers is what shepards pie is. It's left ove mashed potatoes, left oveer vegetables if you don't have any left over then use what you have, evenn frozen vegetables. Make a gravy or sauce to cover the meat and vegetables then cover with the mashed potatoes and bake until hot. You can vary this any thing you wantsuch as beef roast or hamburger, turkey, or roast chicken and roast pork and any vegetable you hve on hand.
