It's meal time.... Eat to fill hunger or for health?

Do you follow recommendations? - The food pyramid is recommended for good health.

I had a heavy breakast two and a half hours ago. Why am I feeling hungry now? I had heavy lunch yesterday and dinner was normal meal after 9pm. There are several schools of thoughts. Some advocate that we should have a heavy breakfast and have a light lunch. Some advocate we should skip breakfast and have a heavy lunch. Dieticians would say we cannot skip any meals. To certain people, it is better to eat small portions and take more meals. And best to follow recommendations as per the food pyramid for each day so as to enjoy good health and proper nutrition. For dieters and those on weight loss programs, it is best no dinner. Here, I am not talking about dieting and weight loss programs. It is just a general discussion on your eating habits. Which school of thought do you follow? Do you eat to fill your hunger or for health?

I do tend to agree with those who say that we should have a heavy breakfast. You know - the "feast like a king for breakfast and eat like a pauper for dinner" rule. This is important since we need energy to start the day. If you don't eat a sumptuous breakfast, where will the energy come from? If you want to cut down on your weight, I think having frequent small meals would be ideal. Don't forget to take care of your dental health too. :P

Probably my big head has reserve big enough. At times, I feel more energetic when I skip breakfast. Dental health - as in brushing after every meal? That might mean brushing every 2 hours and it might affect the gums.

Hello, whyaskq,I think it is never a good thing to skin any meals, when you feel hungry,it is better to eat something to fill you up,even you want to keep fit,you still need to have something or your stomach will be damaged when times go by.It is also not good to have too much in one meal but eat much less in other meals during the days, you should also have meals in regular time. I will always have three meals one day,not only to fill me up,i also try to eat in a healthy way.I will make me 80% full and try to enjoy the food everytime.

Well, I had my breakfast 10 years ago, LOL! I have an erratic schedule and poor eating habit. I can have breakfast and lunch altogether, either a heavy lunch or dinner or even one meal a day only. My girls are the one who follow the food pyramid. Its fortunate that the three of us don't have weight issues except that I need to gain a little more. I only eat to fill my hunger. This may sound weird to you. When I'm under a lot of stress, I can't feel any hunger. I tend to resort to water therapy only. :)

At the moment I am trying to eat for health reasons and to lose some weight as I am 40 pounds overweight. Its actually hard eating smaller portions and trying to eat more often than the normal 3x a day. Its even worse trying not to eat all the junk food I use to eat LOL but I'm trying. I often skipped breakfast but now I try not to and follow the guidelines of eating at least 5-6 small meals a day. I am not on a diet but in the process of cutting down on a lot of what I use to eat, and exercising at lesat 3-4 times a week. Slowly but surely i will get there :)

That's a healthy routine you have out there. Since you are doing exercises, it is advisable not to skip any meals. The breakfast is recommended to be the most important meal of the day unlike lunch or dinner. By skipping meals, there is a tendency to eat more at later meals and that increases weight.

hi whyaskq i think its both for me. it should be both healthy and tasty enough to fill my stomach. i prefer a light breakfast and a heavy lunch and dinner. i never take any snakes in evening time. this is why i take heavy lunch. i am quite fond of the different kinds of food but i need to hate health food as well to keep myself healthy.

I like to eat for health and if I don't have to, I would probably won't be eating now. Because I really don't like the idea of eating whatsoever but I do it because I have to.

I never think that we should deprive ourselves of food, since it is important for us to acquire it everyday. I am not much into dieting, but I am more into keeping myself healthy. Like a couple of excercises a week, some supplements to take and maintain or keep my body in good shape. So for me, I eat to fill my hunger.

I would think that it is more important one enjoy the food one eats. And yes, complement the diet with exercise is a healthy lifestyle. Keep it up, my friend :)

I´m not pretty good with this as I don´t have a tight schedule about when I´m going to eat. Most of the time I only eat when I´m hungry or small portions but often. Sometimes when I´m busy I even forget to eat. But one thing that I always remember what I´ve learned from my dad, when you are sick you just have to push yourself to eat something even if its just a bite....

I eat what I like and thankfully most of the food I like falls in the upper portion of the food pyramid. I also eat to satify my hunger and would always choose the healthier option.
