Have you ever been declined by your credit card?

Citibank Cash Back Card - Here's the card I use when I experience being declined at Shakeys, lol!

I usually use it to purchase groceries, pay my bills or for dine-in convenience.

It's much safe to bring than the cash nowadays but not when declined, lol!

Most people use credit cards to purchase things nowadays. This is much safer to bring than the cash. Basically we use it to purchase goods, bills payment or even for dining in a restaurant. I have with me one credit card and it's Citibank. Actually I'm not the principal holder but a supplementary one. My elder sister handed it out to me for some transactions. She does not live with us instead rents a house near her office. Ok, this is what happened. Me and my boyfriend visit the mall near us for some reloading and purchases. After we finished our grocery he ask me to use the credit card at Shakeys where he wanted to spend our dinner. As far as I know, I've never use the maximum limit that much. As we pay our bill, the crew ask us for another one because it has been declined. I was kind a shame for it. I did not expect the card to decline, good thing I have a cash which is supposed to be used with something else. I just pay our bill with it. I can't imagine what would happen if I don't have extra cash to pay, lol! We might wash the dishes, who knows? Hahaha... Did you also have the same experience like us? Share your experience here. I would love to hear them out Have a nice day everyone!

it seems like citibank loves to play safe. i have been wondering why this move towards favoring the use of credit cards is being promoted at the malls and appliance stores these days. before, they have these discounts favoring those who buy in cash. now, they are having many promotions for those who use credit cards. there are more privileges that they are giving for specific ones each time. it seems to me that they are promoting overspending among the populace.

I heard most cases like this happened with citibank? I'm not sure of the reason. Anyway, thank's for sharing your experience here!

Wow, I must have really bad luck. I always keep my cards well below their limits, but I have been declined many times. Usually it's a network error with one of the banks, occassionally it's due to going over my self imposed daily spending limit for the card (when shopping online, it's hard to guess when the merchant is going to process the charge sometimes). I don't really see what would be so embarrassing about it, there are a lot of connections involved in a credit card transaction, and if any one of them fail the transaction fails. I know I don't judge a person by whether or not their card goes through. I use cards, and pay them off at the end of the month, then enjoy the rewards (cash back, shopping cards, etc.)

I know my credit card limits and I do not go beyond limits. Hence, I do not get the chance to be declined when I am using my credit card. In fact, I am very particular about overspending using credit cards.

I have never been declined by my credit card. I can imagine how embarrassing it will be if you are declined. I always make sure I return the money on time. And I won't be in debit. Then the possibility to be declined will be very low.

It's really embarassing because people would look to you as if something's wrong with you. I really hate being decline. Now I cancelled my card and decided to use cash or a cah card. Thank's for responding!

I have never been declined using my credit card as I have never even come close to being near or over the limit. I try and keep my balance down on my credit card. I certainly do not want to pay those overlimit fees and finance charges. Sorry to hear that this happened to you but glad that you were able to pay by cash and get out of there. Sometimes it could be their machines that are not working either so it may not have been your card.

I don't have a credit card so I never had this problem. I like paying cash. If I don't have enough money, I won't buy what I want. I don't like having to owe someone, especially a bank.

I really hope this never happens as I would be mortified . It was bad enough when last week I went to get my groceries and didn't have any cash on me and when I went to pay with my debit , my card wouldn't work . After a few tries they got it to work but I don't know what I would have done if it had simply not worked . I have since had it replaced because I don't want this to happen again . We are a big family and when I get my groceries we often have three carts . I would die of embarassment if my card didn't work and I had to return it all lol . I have never been declined yet but there have been a few close calls where I was worried I wouldn't have enough . I don't know what they would make someone do but it would be something you would never forget .

I guess it's really hard in your case. After you have your three carts of grocery items you'll be declined? That's a big joke, lol! No one would be happy for it. Thank's for the thoughts!

I personally have not ever been declined, we have 3 cards with high limits, and hubby is adamant about paying them all off every month. But when I waited tables it happened to customers all the time. It was slightly embarrassing to have to go back to the table and tell them, and I'm sure it's embarrassing for the patron too. Sometimes if a credit card network is overloaded, people all charging alot at the same time the card will come back declined, this happens alot around the holidays. SOmetimes the computer servers just can't handle all the action. I've never seen anyone have to do dishes, usually the meal just gets comped. Most dishwashers make minimum wage, could you imagine how long you'd have to do dishes to pay the bill? LOL

Hello jencai. I know what you mean. I once used my credit card to purchase some stuff inside the mall. The cashier told me that it was not working. I was flabbergasted and my mind began racing through the number of times I used my credit card. I told the cashier that I hadn't reached the credit limit yet. The cashier instructed me to proceed to the customer service to verify my card. At the front desk, the staff there told me I needed to wait for an hour for verification of my card. I was already upset that time and decided not to purchase anything. When I got home, I called my bank and related my concern. Guess what...the bank said that they were offline for about 30 minutes earlier. Now that's what I called a bad case of luck.

How long do you used your citibank credit card? Are you really sure you have'nt eceed to your maximum limit? You already ask your sister if she cancelled your supplementary card? There are lots of circumstances that needed to be ask or better yet call the citibank hotline for inquiries. 995-9999 if your from the Philippines. Hope I could help you out

Yeah, I've asked my sister about it and she told me that before I make purchases I should call first the bank if I there's still left available to use. Then I also call Citibank at 9959999, they told me that as of that moment we don't have much available limit to pay that bill. I guess my sister consmed most of it that time. Thank's for your response!

Hello there Jencai ! ;) Yeah, I had experience too. It was not on a restaurant scenario but it happened on a Hardware Store. My cousin asked favor If they could purchase a DURABOX ( I hope uR familiar with this because that's what my mum call it.hehehhe. Anyway, the one where we can place our folded clothes and other stuff?. It is made of plastic and has usually 3 or 4 layers of drawers with it.) I'm using a JCB Equitable card (EASY PAY)with a credit limit of 5thousand only. ( I haven't requested yet to increase my credit limit at that time.) I lost track of my purchases and I have not checked my current balance thru phone (TOLL FREE SERVICE they offer) and went immediately to the shop where they've found the item. The cashier asked if I have another creditcard to use because my transaction was being declined! Shocks! What's worst was that not any of the members of the family who came along have brought money so we ended going home with nothing.LOL! It was really a shame. Lesson to be learned for sure. Months after that, I requested them (Equitable PCI) for a much higher credit limit to avoid situations like that in the future. WHEW!! :)

Both my husband and I have debit cards and I didn't realize that we had daily limits to use on our debit cards. While we had plenty of money in our accounts, our debit cards only allowed us to use them up to $300/day. We had traveled to this outlet mall to buy maternity clothes and had also used my husband's card for gas and lunch. When we went to pay for the clothes, it was declined. We used my debit card (has the same account) and it was accepted. I didn't realize that we had that limit until I called the bank the next day to find out what happened. This was about 6 years ago, now our limits have been increased to something like 3,000/day (not sure I'll ever reach that one!)

it is good that you brought cash with you. it would have been such an uncomprimising situation which have ensued from it. anyway, have you inquired from your sister why was it so? also ask her if there will be some need for you to inquire whether it is okay to use the credit card before doing so. it is best to play safe tahn be sorry for it. this situation has never happened to me because, i have always declined from having one. nowadays, however, there are some transactions which require us to show one. i have always wanted to be free of these credit and debit cards. for me, paying in cash is best. i am sure that i will never ever get to spend more than what i can afford. besides, they have these yearly fees and then something like three percent overhead for our purchase for the month. my money in the bank earns only something like two to three percent if not zero for a year. i do not see any rationale at keeping my savings at the bank then pay quite a high interest for my purchases through the credit card.

hi girl! My experience is not really about credit card. Its about my atm card, that was saturday morning i woke up early for i need to withdraw. Ofcourse im sure i have remaining balance on it though a small amount. What happened? From our house i went to the atm machine with only P15 in my pocket just enough for my fare, P7 for trysicle and P7 for jeep a one way fare. to my dissapointment my credit got dibeted!!! all i got was a receipt that states "no dispense cash!!! all my balance got debited! that time i wanted to cry!! im so pathetic. imagine i only have P1 left in my pocket plus i don't have my cellphone with me, i cant even call our land line for P1 is not enough, expecting that when i got there i can withdraw money. but i have no choice i walked going home. its like 2 kilometers walkathon,Ü... from then on i don't trust the atm machine anymore its very hard especially during emergency cases...
