So, honest opinions, what would you have done?

The other day I went shopping at (sigh...)Walmart. Going through check out, and the cashier doesn't acknowledge me at all. Only thing she says to me is "do you want these bagged?"(candy bar) I said no thank you and took them. Meanwhile, baby's fussing the whole time, and a friend of the cashier's walked by and started talking to the cashier. So she goes into slow mode now ringing everything up, heaven forbid she waits till she's done ringing up my stuff. I had bought 3 packages of nicotine gum(had a smoking relapse lol), they were on sale. She was having a hard time getting them to ring up. So I'm messing with the baby, I look up at the register and it said something like, transaction not valid. So, I "interrupted" her conversation with her friend and asked her if they rang up. She said-rudely-HUH?? Then turned and continued her conversation with her friend. I thought whatever...Pay, leave, unload groceries in the car, strap in the baby in the car seat. Get ready to leave and decide to look at the receipt. Nope, none of the 3 boxes of gum rang up. They were 17.00 a piece. So, lots of frozen food sitting in my car in 90+ degree heat, baby being Miss Cranky Pants, thinking-I did ask her if it rang up....would you go back in and pay for it? Or would you just say screw it, I made an honest attempt to get her to check it, and go on your merry way? Just curious what you guys would've done.

Dang, that clerk lost 51 dollars, lol. Oh well, she should of been paying closer attention than yanking it up with her buddy. If you didn't have food that would have spoiled and the baby wasn't cranky, I would have went back to the customer service and got the clerk in trouble. On the other hand 51 dollars, lol, I would have said screw it and went home. Plus you did try to tell her. Top it off she was rude. I wish I had that happen to me, or have it happen to me.

I think the manager would be mad about losing 51 bucks on there watch, but oh well. I hope you did the I saved money dance, I would be grinning from ear to ear. I say it was a glitch in the system, and she wasn't paying attention. Oh well, still do the I saved money dance. Funny how things like that don't happen all the time.

at least you checked the receipt and asked her about it so I think you did all you could. I probably wouldn't noticed until I got home but even if I did, I wouldn't go back cause she would just be rude anyway while I was trying to exlpain to her that it was her mistake. So I would have just gone ahead and be happy about my freebie since some people are too moody to work accurately.

I checked the receipt when I got in the car, just had a feeling something wasn't right with the total, usually I forget to and do it when I get home also. Then I get pissed at myself because I usually get overcharged for something lol. Then I get mad at myself and swear that I'm going to start watching while they ring the stuff up-which never happens because I usually have Ms. Cranky Pants with me :)

I would have just left. You did try to ask her, and if she had been doing her job the right way she would have noticed. And if she was a good cashier she would have done her best to get you out of there quickly see that your baby was fussing.

Good point, they're such pokey butts here, seem to only be able to move in slow and slower lol.

Hahaha :) It would have taken a saint to go back into that store and have her check it after she was so rude. A saint, I am not. I would have smiled (free gum!), and gone on with the rest of the day like nothing happened. She deserved it.

I say no why shoudl you. Like you said you attempted to tell her about it and furhter more she doesnt need to be having aconverstion with a friend while working. I have been having an issue with walmart cashiers lately myself. everytime i have went it has taken me forever to get through the checkout, except the time that i used the self checkout lane and i did that with 100.00 worth of and got throughfaster thent he friend i was with and her bill was only 47.00 I think that if you did go back into the store to pay for them i would of made sure i knew the name of the cashier well i guess that it is on the receipt. and let them know about how she was being rude and that she was not doing her job she was conversing with a friend.

I always prefer the self check out lanes, but we don't have them here at any of ours. But they can suck too lol, had quite a few problems with them as well, but usually they are quicker. Like I mentioned before, it seems they move in slow and slower, and that's it. And of course there's never enough lanes open. Didn't they have a policy if there was more then 3 people in line, they'd open a new checkout? Guess that's gone the wayside lol. And you know, as far as complaining, I've tried that before, with a CSM(customer service manager), who was absolutely horrid....they don't care, didn't do anything. I so wish we had a big Kmart or Target around, I'd gladly pay the few extra dollars to shop at those stores.

I wouldn't have gone back in and paid for it, at least not in the situation you were in. If I felt that hindering by it, I would've went back at a better time for myself and asked to speak to the manager and explain the situation. There is no need for employees to be rude to customers, lest wal-mart can simply survive without them, which I doubt.

It's amazing how rude their employees are becoming, seems to be their trademark now lol. This store has only been open a few months now, and it's funny to see how the employees all had stars in theirs eyes when it first opened, and now, those stars are twinkling out lol.

Due to the fact that she would not pay attention and you had to try to correct it, I would have kept going. It was not your fault and she should not have been goofing around. If you really felt bad, you could have called the store and told them later but I would not have.

OK, you asked me to be honest. ha ha I would go on my merry way. How rude that cashier was!!! And you tried to tell her that the items you were purchasing were not ringing up. It is WalMart's fault for employing a rude and careless cashier. Plus, Walmart already has such a mark up over everyone else because they are a mass market company, those couple items are not going to hurt them. Is it wrong for me to not go back and pay for it? Yes...it is. But honestly, after all that was already done...her being rude, you pointing it out, loading groceries in hot car, baby being cranky pants...I would go on my merry way. I do not want to upset the baby more. Nor do I want my groceries to go to waste in the hot car because some girl does not know how to do her job properly. I sure hope you went on your merry way!

Yep, went on my merry way lol :) And my daughter very much enjoyed the candy bar...what a mess it was lol. And you're right, I agree with you, it was wrong, but I figure I made the attempt and asked her about it. I don't usually check my receipts anyway till I'm in the car or more usually at home, oh well not losing any sleep over it :)

I doubt they'd even notice something right, it just never rang up I guess. I actually wonder if she knew it didn't ring up, she was kind of flustered trying to enter the correct info into the register. I wonder if she just said screw it thinking they weren't that expensive....oh well right :)

screw her. she was being very rude and you DID try to bring it to her attention. if she cant be "bothered" with someone trying to help her out, then dont worry about her getting into trouble. which she probably didnt anyways. she needs to learn how to do her job. and if she keeps having little things like that show up, maybe a manager will finally start paying attention to how bad of an employee she is. i know i wouldnt have gone back!
