Do we control our thoughts? How about our feelings? Inarguable we can regulate our feeling to an extent; control ourself, as it were. But do we actually control our feelings? I would have to say no. You cannot decide to get angry for no reason, or to hate somebody, or to love them. Nobody claims to be able to intellectually cause their own feelings, especially love. It is one of man's oldest mysteries. Why do i love this person? this other person is rich, has a good job, and is a perfect gentlemen/lady, so why do I love this poor, unsophisticated man/woman instead? Questions for debate: Do we control who we love or don't love? God wants us to choose to love him. how is this valid if we are not in control of who we love? Then, god would loose his omnipotence wouldn't he?

I think we do have control over our feelings. We can choose to love whomever as much as we want. We can also choose not to be angry or upset; for who would want to have those feelings without cause? You can make conscious choices concerning your feelings about anything. All it takes is awareness and persistence. The thoughts you think create your feelings. God could never lose anything, for He/She is all to begin with. God does not have anything to loose.

really, do we choose to be angry or upset? arent anger and sadness just a product of what has happend? we have no control over it. when one hits you in the face, some people get angry, some get sad, but nobody sits their thinking about it and then chooses one over the other lol. but if we do have control, does god loose his omnipotence?

You can always choose your feelings from the inside. You DO NOT have to feel bad when things in the outside world appear to go wrong. You can love the whole world and everything in it, if you decide to. You don't not have to feel bad for any reason; who is forcing you to feel angry or upset?

so, if one punches you in the face, so hard that you feel like your going to cry, you are happy?

Have you read your bible? and understood what it is telling you? because if you had then you would grow to love God. I believe that we should question formal religion and the teachings and even the truth of the bible we study today as it has been changed by man so many times, but I have never found the need to question my love for God or his love for me. Why do you feel this need? has nobody ever given you the word of God so you could learn his love? We don't just love a stranger, we meet the person, get to know the person and develop a relationship with the person and through that relationship we come to truly love that person as a friend, a lover, or however you feel about them. It is the same for God, read his word, learn the truth, develop a relationship with him that is personal to you and grow to love him.
