Do you ever feel patronized by your pediatrician?

My son came home from school covered in red spots like chicken pox. We did not over react inany way. We just made a phone call to make sure it was or wasn't chicken pox. They said the way we described them it sounded definately like it. The next day most of them were scabbed ove and shrunk in size. BUt he had more and wasstill getting them. The doctor had us wait almost an hpur before giving us his precious two minute glance. He barely gave my son a good look over and said, maybe bug bites or a rash. He is fine, send him back toschool. The end. How rude. I would not have wasted my time coming all the way to over there to sit for an hour to have someone pat my hand and say its ok. He has red spots from head to toe. From the tips of his ears to the bottom of his feet. Sporadically spread out with only one or two here and one or two there. Not in a rash like pattern. Tha was last thursday. He is still getting new spots and even has a few in his mouth. The wierd thing is they scab over by the end of the day. It could be an A-typical case because he has had the shot, but the doctor was not concerned. Wht would you do in this situation? Complain? Take him backand have someone else look him over? Blow it off as nothing?

I would definitely take him back. If treated the same way again I would take him elsewhere but I think it sounds worse than what the doctor saw the initial day. I would probably consider finding a new doctor for future visits.

You might just be humble (as opposed to defensive) and complain right to him or the office manager just saying exactly what you said here. You just want to feel that your doctor is available and concerned. There is nothing wrong with that.

I don't reallt know who to complain too, there are not that many doctors on our side of the bridge. We would have to travel to find another. He is a good doctor, except for this one case.

I agree, I would take him back for a second opinion with ANOTHER doctor. I left a practice where the pediatrician's ofter were patronizing. My new Ped. is wonderful!! He has even had me bring my son to his office at 7:00 at night the night before Thanksgiving, because he had tonsilitis again and the Dr. did not want him suffering until the office opened back up!

I would probably take him to another doctor to make sure. It sounds like chicken poxs to me. But it's better to take him to a doctor to make sure. Your doctor sounds like a quack. No offense.

My kids go to a practice and it is whoever is on that day. He is a good doctor and has been there since my youngest was born. I haven't any other complaints except this one. I take no offense.

I am really upset for you. Doesn't the doctor know that chicken pox is a very contagious, yet common viral infection that it is very itchy by red, pus-filled spots and blisters. The kid will feel very uncomfortable with the itch and feverish and ache all over the body. For me, I will get back to the doctor again ask him what happen. He had to be responsible. He should tell us if he getting a chicken pox or HFMD (Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease) or German measle. These few are quite similar. If he yet to recover, take him back to the doctor or change another doctor. Take care.

My son has had the chicken pox vaccination so I think the doctor was not too worried about it. I am taking him back this week to see another pediatrician. Thank you .
