We find when we shop for groceries, one week we may spend quite a bit, and the next week not as much. Some weeks the only reason we go to the store is to pick up milk. When you do your weekly shopping, do you average out so you spend the same amount each week or does it depends on what you got in the house, so that you may spend $130 one time, and $75 another?

It all depends on what I run out of at the house- the weeks where I need to buy pop, laundry detergent, shampoo/conditioner, etc. the bill is alot higher- Usually I average $40 ish a week- but I just went to Super Walmart and dropped $93- on top of my $40 at the grocery store-

It's when we have to buy the non-food items that our bill is higher. I'm in Canada and Walmart hear does not sell fresh produce like fruits and veggies, rats!!!! I wish it did. We're trying to find a cheaper place to buy our food without the reduction in quality. Thanks for responding.

my bill is always different. It depends on what I need. I am a person who dont spend a lot on candy, chips and all that kind of things. Totally i will spend about 120 dollar a week (canadian dollar)

when i peronally go shopping my bill will be high as i am tempted to buy more, so i usually make a list and ask someone to buy for me.

Never done that. Never calculate the exact amount i used... it just randomly. I will put aside... let's say $150 per week... then during that week I must not exceed that amount. If by the end of the week, there is still balance.. so either i will add up to the next week's or just spend it...

My husband just says "we only have a fixed amount to spend" right when we're in the produce section and then when we get to the meat section is, "do we need some more?"

These days I budget a hundred dollars a week for groceries. I don't allow myself to go over this amount. I find that I may spend eighty dollars one week but another week I might have to spend the full hundred. It depends on how many of the groceries I can catch on sale. With milk and fresh produce going up I am finding it a little harder to stay within budget. Luckily for me the farmers market will be opening up soon so I will be able to pay more reasonable.

We're not near a farmer's market but the idea of not going over a certain amount sounds like a good idea. Thanks.

Hi,suspenseful! My bill is quite different every week, but I'm a weekly shopper. I find that every week when I go to the grocery shop,I always pick up some goods as routines, such as milk, biscuits, chocolate bars, and toast.Sometimes the is bill the distinct because that last week I bought three packs of milk but this week I just need 2 packs.Though the bill is different every week, but the goods are regular.

That sounds like me. Our bill is higher when we pick up laundry detergent, nylons, light bulbs and things like that.

I cannot put budget and buy things equally on each week. Sometimes you require costly items like creams, complan, etc., other days our requirements will not be costly like mustard, salt etc. So my purchase is only as per the requirement and not the budget.

I spend roughly the same amount every week. It does not vary much. I have a budget and I very seldom exceed it. I make a shopping list before I shop that allows for some changes but this way I usually stick to my budget and always have the right amount of food in the house.
