Some of you know my son Mikey is going to college to be a meteorologist. he has wanted to be one since 2nd grade. he is fulfilling his dream. This summer the national weather service in Portland has hired him to work for them through the summer. He came home last night and told me that he will have a permanent job there now. So each summer he will work there and when he gets out of college he will have a job. I am so happy for him. of course proud too. All through his life i told him "you can do whatever you put your mind too" he listened and he has followed through. it is so important to praise your children. Give them love and tell them how proud you are of even the smallest accomplishments. I have three boys and two have followed their dream. Well actually Kevin is following his dream too. his dream is making his parents support him lol But since he has aspergers a form of autism) i don't try to push him Do you have children following their dream or do you follow your dream? Did you have people in your life who praised you??

Hello princess, I am so happy for your son. I really can't believe that he is such a lucky fellow - to know what he wants ever since second grade. I am so envious of him to be honest. Here I am, already one step into the grave, and I still don't know what to want in life. Neither have I accomplished anything except being a parasite to all around.

It's strange, my elder sister and my brother were encouraged and supported in their endeavours but not my other sister and I. We were criticised and belittled at every turn. My father dashed my dreams of what I wanted to be and my mother stood by saying nothing. Mum would buy lottery tickets each week with the hope of being able to help us all out. I don't think my daughter's had dreams, we had it rough as a single parent family with no other family support, my eldest daughter has made a career for herself and my younger daughter is a recovered (I hope) speed user. She lives her life on-line role playing.

It is hard to make it without encouragement. But i did it. I think I am an exception to the rule. I was told i cant do anything and that i would always be slow in everything i did. I proved them all wrong :) thanks

Your three children are a real credit to you my friend, the fact that they are special and hold some good vocations means that you've have nurtured, cared and given them every opportunity and chance in life! My housemate has acute AS too, and when he gets an idea you can't shift it, he can also been a holy pain to live with, but then again I am no angel ;0)

I admire the youths that get this far! With all the hidden pleasures and lifes' pressures it's quite an accomplishment today! Give yourself a pat on the back, you sure deserve one or more! Take care Snow :)

That is really cool. Great news. I wish him continued success in his chosen field of interest. I have always liked meteorology (the weather) and find it quite fascinating, if even only in laymans terms. The Weather Channel has always been one of my favorites. Is that Porland Maine or Washington? I hardly had anyone praise me in life, and no one to tell me that I could get to where I wanted to be if I never gave up. It sounds like your son had a lot of encouragement along the way toward achieving his goals. That is what the world needs more of.

Actually I don't know that any of my kids really had a 'dream' from a young age - the two oldest 'boys' just sort of fell into their careers. My daughter has been a mother since 16 so has not done much else. I have had a dream for 40 years of being a writer but until recently never really had anyone encouraging or supporting me towards that dream. Guess I have now fallen into that also although not exactly the writing I had in mind.
