How do you cheer yourself up?

Lately, I've been feeling pretty down. I'm going through a bunch of life changes right now, and though I try to be optimistic that everything will be okay, I've been feeling a bit nervous and depressed. In order to make myself feel better, I've been going on walks to relax and have been treating myself in little ways. I have also been wondering about other things I could do to help my mood. What kinds of things do you do when you feel a little down? What do you do to cheer yourself up?

oh even i go thru these mood swings n feel really low n depressed at times. usually i keep to myself on days like these. n i listen to music, or read something to divert my mind. but a sureshot way to feel good about urself is to think about all the good things in ur life (i usually do this) and ur all happy happy again. :D

Good point. What better way to stop thinking of the things that are bothering you than to think about all the great things you have going for you? Focusing on the positive is the right idea I think at this point. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have a playlist on my iPod called "Make Me Happy!" If I'm having a really rough day, I will usually put on that playlist, which is mainly filled with really upbeat songs that I can't help but smile about, if not sing along or dance to. After a few songs of that playlist, I almost always feel a little bit better. That, and ice cream. :) But the first option has many less calories. :)

That play list is a great idea. There are always certain songs that no matter how bad I feel, the songs cheer me up or make me want to sing along. I think I will definitely try this one out.

I think of my son. Most cases that's enough to put a great step inside my heart but if it doesn't playing with him sure does. I love chasing him and watching him walk, his little duck style walking pattern will sure be something I'd miss. ~Joey

you are a great dad! lucky son! and duck style walking? that's cute. haha. i bet you can walk in that style, too. who else could have taught him that? his daddy ofcourse! secret, but i do that for fun, too! and my mom laughs at me so much. and she'll surely miss me when i'm in sweden already and i'll miss her, too. i guess parents' best way of forgetting problems and moving forward in life is their children. ... anne

It helps sometimes to listen to some uplifting music that you enjoy, music can be very theraputic, also remind yourself of all the good things you have done for yourself and others and allow yourself room when you fail, no one is perfect, just get right back up and win

When I'm feeling down and out I usually keep to myself, which most people wouldn't agree with I'd think, but I always need to deal with my problems in my own way and I don't like other people to be around bothering me. I watch a lot of movies. I actually have a book that teaches you how you can take movies and learn from them...it's really amazing. It gives you tons of suggestions and asks you questions so you can relate it to you. Honestly it helps a lot. It helps put things in perspective! Other times I buy my happiness by buying a movie or something. something small...not extravagant. Or I'll dye my hair or get new makeup...make myself look good to myself. You know. Those things help me.

It's funny that you should say that about dyeing your hair when you are down. I made myself a hair appointment this monday for a cut and totally new haor color. It's a bit expensive, but I am hoping that the change will do me some good.

The only danger in sometimes doing a new hair color/cut/style is that if you don't like it, it won't help you get in a better mood! But as long as it's not a completely drastic change, I think the change will do some good. Good luck to you with your hair appointment. I hope that will get you in a better mood.

we do all go through this stage in life. there are even times when we don't really know why we're feeling down and depressed. but it happens. so, we need to deal with it and just try and cheer up ourselves. it's nice to go for a walk just like you do. i do that, too. but i go to the mall and walk about there. even if i won't be buying anything at all, i just walk around and see new things. it's kinda fun as well. or, i just log in to myLot and see some discussions here. connecting to people around the world makes me feel relaxed and at ease. or, i watch movies. movies can take me to some place else. make me forget the present time. most of the time, i go online and chat to my boyfriend. he makes me feel so happy all the time... anne

That's true, connecting with people on myLot can be helpful. It's nice to read about how other people are feeling the same way you do. It's also nice just to see that other people around the world like the same things that you do. I do have a new DVD of one of my favorite shows to watch this weekend. I'm hoping that will cheer me up and distract me a little bit. Perhaps a little alone time is in order as well.

Oh...do I hear you I have been totally stressed out for a few weeks now. I read that mercury is in retrograde this month...if you belive in that kind of thing, this is a tough time for a lot of people. I think the suggestion of watching funny things on youtube is a good one. I have been watching the "Chad Vader" series. It is HILARIOUS! It's almost impossible to be sad while watching it. Last night my sister and I spent some time watching old videos on YouTube of one her favorite boy bands from days gone by. It was pretty funny and we even decided to try to learn a routine for fun and excerise. When all else fails I will turn to my favorite TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That show is like comfort food for me. I just throw on a DVD of it and take a trip to Sunnydale!

Muppets are funny...and fun. Yeah. Chad vader is amazing clever..and you are right about all the bad StarWars parodys. There is a real skill to doing parody and not everyone has it. Maybe try to identify if there is anything particular going on in your life. I know I am going through a lot of changes, transitions and even experiencing some loss in my life right now. It's enough to make anyone feel pretty blue.

Chad Vader is surprisingly clever. It is also really refreshing with all those bad Star Wars parodies out there. So, Buffy cheers you up? I like to watch The Muppets when I get down. They are so fun and goofy and they also remind me of when I was a kid.

I hate the feeling of moody and down .But it does happen sometimes in every bodies' life.I have my way to overcome it by deep breathing and a very basic yoga strecthing which really helps to cheer up my mood.I love the fact that when you strech you body are stimulated at the same time it improve the blood circulate system in our entire body. I'm a ver health concious person, when i felt down or emotional down i won't eat unhealthy food, such as junk foods, deep fried foods, fast food, grill and others. Because when we are in the situation of down, sad or frustration our immune system are also weak.It would easily get sick or wose. i will go for salad fruits ,supllements, drink more water . It works out very good very well for me and i hope it works for you..:)

Whenever i feel depress i go out for a long drive, fast driving, speed calms me down somehow with a very loud music. Then i go in a coffeeshop stay there til 2am, just with my laptop connected to the internet and surfing the net. Another thing i do is i go to my bestfriend's house and talk to her for hours. Another i go to for a hair spa / hot oil / cellophane / manicure / pedicure / facial scrub / body scrub / foot spa and all beauty relaxation. Another i go to my favorite shop and buy what i want no matter what price it is (usually its Lotion / skin moisturizer / perfume) Another i buy myself some clothes or shoes too. What i love most is to DRIVE, DRIVE FAST! :)
