When you were a kid where was your favorite "hiding" place?

We all had different spots we loved to hide in from our parents and siblings, not always because of bad stuff but sometimes for "alone" time that we felt was our own secret place. I used to hide in the attic. I loved it up there with the old trunks and things that went way back in time, old pictures of relatives I never knew, things my mother treasured, etc. Where was yours?

I loved to go and sit in my grandpa's barn. I used to love to sit up on the grain bin in front of the cows and listen to them munch on hay or their soft lowing. Listen to them sigh and make cow sounds. They are very docile calming creatures. Sometimes I would sit up in the hay mow because it always smelled like summer time to me (with the cut hay smell). No one ever knew where I was except my grandpa.

That sounds really great! My great uncle had a dairy farm. I spent a summer with my grandmother who lived down the street and we often went up there to watch the cows being milked and get rides in the haywagon. Great memories. It was great you had a confidante in your grandpa too! Thanks for sharing.

That sounds very nice. I remember going to my great uncle's dairy farm when and enjoying watching the cows being milked, riding in the hay wagon, etc. Those are great memories. I'm glad you had a special grandpa that kept your secret too:)

my favorite hiding place is on our roof. whenever i feel like i wanna be on my own, i climb up a tree to the roof and stay there for ours. it's also good to watch the stars at night from the roof. the blow of the wind is so refreshing. nice to be alone sometimes, huh? anne

I'm glad you have such a nice place to go for "alone" time. When you're in a family unit alone time is important I think. I know it helped when I was young and in a large family. Thanks for sharing.

What a pleasant memory you've resurrected, MJLami. We had this huge old-fashioned chifferobe that sat in the hallway just outside the bathroom. It mostly held my aunt's better dresses, stoles, and hats. There was a deep space in the bottom and I would climb over in there and close the doors when I wanted to hide. Thanks for the memory.

When I was kid my parents own a little kiosk next to our house. So, what i did was hiding in one of the big cabinet in there. before hiding i grabbed some candy and the ice cream with me. My mom usually ran her mouth when she found me with ice cream stain on my shirt. " How many times I told you not to take stuff from the store, you gonna make me bancrupt!" LOL

LOL! You must have been quite the kid and how convenient your family had a store for you to grab candy and ice cream whenever you could. Nice memory. Thanks for sharing it.

I use to go in the over head attic, now, here in The Bahamas, you know people are not going to look up there, that was my secret hiding spot everytime I wanted to dissapear, I have a table, and a battery powered small lamp i'd leave up there. It was positioned where it was sturdy, wouldn't want my Mom watching tv and WHAM! I come tumbling through the roof on her head. Can you say PUNISHMENT!

I actually had two spots, one in the house and one outside the house. The one in the house was the linen closet. We had this huge pile of blankets at the bottom and I could curl up in there and no one would know I was there. It was great. Growing up we lived in the country and one side of our property had a lot of trees. There was an area in the one section where there was a slight clearing. I'd go there with a lunch and have fun. Let my imagination go wild.

We lived right next door to my grandma when I was growing up. I used to grab a book and head out behind her house. I would put a lawn chair really close to the side of her deck that was further from my parents' house. It was always shady because there was a tree close by, too. I would sit out there and read the entire book, and then go in for another one. My mom or my sister would ask me where I was, and I would just tell them I had been outside, and take another book out and read it, too. I also used to get in the closet in my bedroom sometimes. I shared a room with my sisters, and there were times that I just wanted to get away from them. Our closet was full of stuff, but I would move it around, and cuddle up with a blanket in the corner. Sometimes I would go to sleep in there. lol

You have some very good spots and you hit exactly on what I was talking about - alone time from parents and siblings!

My favourite hiding place was at my grandparents flat, I used to hide behind the sofa and nobody would look behind it because of the way it laid out. Apart from that I used to calm down outside on the front steps. ~Joey

I'm glad you were able to find a place to hide and had another outlet when you needed to calm down. I'm guessing you grew up in a city (as I did). It can be a bit tougher to find good hiding spots.

my favourite hiding place as a kid was my mother's wardrobe in which i got locked accidentally trying to scoop out jam which i had stolen from the kitchen one day and since that day never went near that wardrobe again.besides that i had a old trunk given by mt grandmother where i hid all my precious possessions, like my toys, marbles, jewellery, shells etc.

I could see why you avoided that wardrobe after being locked in? How long were you in it and who finally rescued you?

I had several places to hide also, mostly I used to love to walk just behind my back yard where there was a little track of woods. It was nice because after spending some time out there, I had little paths cut and I could get around without anyone knowing I was there.

I've always enjoyed taking walks alone in the woods too. I lived in the city though so I had to wait until we went camping. Thanks for sharing your memories.

There is a large closet in our living room that I liked to hide in. I could push everything aside and hide in the closet and no one knew that I was there. It was like my own little world of sorts. I used my imagination and pretended I was in different worlds and what not when I hide in that closet.

That sounds like a wonderful place to grow your imagination. It reminded me of a tv story I saw where siblings went into a closet and ended up in a magical world fighting good and evil. When they came out of the closet their grandfather was waiting for them and looking forward to hearing of their adventure! I don't remember the name of it but it was really cute.

I did do a lot of hiding when I was growing up, however I did not have any half decent places. The place where I used to hide all the time was behind the living room couch. I would always grab a handful of cookies and go hide behind the couch. Our dog would always follow me and give me away however :( cheers,

We usually play hide and sick outside the house coz our house is not too big for us to play. So we just hide on trees.
