This is an age old problem that has confronted man since the advent of the singles bars. How do you discourage the squirells with out running off the birds? I solved this problem by taking a friend and let him feed the squirells while I tend to the birds.

Ok! If I have to be serious about this squirrel bird problem I will tell you what I really do. I put the feeder on my fence rail and the six little weenie dogs keep the squirrels away. the cats eat the birds and I don't have to feed the cats. Every body is happy except the weenie dogs, cause all they get to do is run around and bark.

There are squirrel proof feeders, which spin when a squirrel tries to jump on them. Maybe you could replace your feeder with one of them.

thanks but on reflection i have decided that since squirells are Gods creatures too im just going to put out the food and let nature run its cource it dosent seem to be bothering the birds to come eat with the squirrels ther e

there is a metal sleeve you can buy to fit over the pole or chain that doesn't allow squirrels to climb as far as the feeder, but then you have to make sure the feeder is far enough from a tree or building so the squirrels can't jump onto it. Or you could just buy food for the squirrels as well, and have both birds and squirrels in harmony
