And he sends me to sleep straight away! Before you get the men in white coats, I'm actually talking about taking a herbal tablet each night before I go to bed As you know I went to see a herbal specialist in a clinic in the city and they have been very very helpful, far more helpful than my GP, mind you I'd get better response from my cats! He prescribed me with Valerian, have you heard of it? Well you have to take one about 30 minutes before you go to bed and it helps you sleep I've been having a lot of problems with getting to sleep because I have a lot on my mind and I suffer with insomnia but these little beauties Talk about Prince Valium! Or should that be Prince Valerian, knock out! It takes about five minutes now before I'm out like a light, they are superb and they work! Do you take anything to help you sleep Have you heard of or taken Valerian? Now the only thing that Wolfie has to keep him awake is the occasional full moon ;0)

lol - and there was me thinking that you were being naughty! I am so pleased that you are having success with these herbal tablets my darling brother! I have had to take sleeping tablets before and they were so-so on the efficiency scale, have also used diazepam and they are quite good at relaxing me enough to help me rest even if I don't sleep! Maybe I should give these little fellas a chance one of these days, but I better get off the other tablets first! And when is the next full moon? lol xxxx

Well wolfie - if it works for you then I am happy - herbal stuff has got to be better than too many chemicals. Yes - I have heard of valerian - I believe they used it a lot in the Middle Ages as a sleeping potion, and I'm sure I read somewhere they crushed the flowers to use as perfume in Elizabethan times. As for my seep patterns - well I can honestly say I have never suffered from insomnia in my life - I'm one of these irritating people who falls asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow, and I can also fall asleep in cars, trains, - even once at an AC/DC concert - LOL! I think I may ned some kind of herbal remedy to wake me up, as I do have lots of problems in the mornings sometimes!!!

I am taking Kalms every night and I manage to sleep a bit, another good her b along with valerian to nock you out is ashwaganda, the Solgar one is the best..that works on the kidneys and the adrenal glands that get too much depleted in times of acute stress and strain..I am glad you are relying on herbal medicine rather than that prozac crap..Good on you my friend.

It makes me angry that it's all about money and that's why GP's are ramming anti-depressants down our necks!

LOL, wolfie...for a while, I thought you're talking about a vampire, Prince Valerian eh. I once took Vitamin B complex with a minimal dosage of valerian root. The health practitioner told me that it was a good supplement for insomnia. The first time I took it, I was like yawning the whole day. I found myself taking a nap in the afternoon which was not my usual habit. At night time, I literally hit the bed real early. It was like that for 3 days. By the 4rth day, my body was able to adjust to the supplement and I started to have a regular sleeping time again. Now that you mention it, I better hop in to my favorite store and purchase a bottle again. I desperately needed to have more sleep.

Honey,Valerian root is also very good for head aches. Valerian was used for epilipsy and plague in the past. American Indians used it crushed up to treat wounds and early colonists used it as a tranquilizer. It can be used for the cramps of intestinal upsets. Very good for those that suffer from anxiety. Can be used for people to lower their blood pressure. Wolfie be sure you cats don't get near it.It is like catnip but makes them get alittle wild. Hugs

I actually got a few headaches after taking the stuff, but settled down, my body is getting used to them, I'm sure, or hope they are not addictive

I have found that if I can't sleep at night or any other time, I just go to mylot and begin to read comments on the religious discussions. I usually immediately fall into a deep coma where I remain untill I regain my sanity.

No I don't Wolfie when I have a lot my mind I will read my Book and I will loose myself in another world, I will read till I am to tired to stay awake I have to say that I do have 2 lots of Medications that I am only aloud to take at Night and they do make me tired one is for my Lungs and one is for my Depressions that I am suffering since I got bullied out of Job 4 years ago tomorrow because of my Illness I have had a lot to take in my Life 2x Rape, a Mum that did not really want me at the time but do we get on now, A marriage that started with Physical abuse, then for 20 years Mental and verbal abuse, diagnosed with my Illness, getting divorced and putting up with threats from the Ex Husband for 4 months and then bullied out of my Job because of my Illness just finished me of. I was fighting them and that made me worse I collapsed. I am actually not aloud to have anything strong to knock me out like that as I do not breathe right when I sleep, so I wake up, if I took something then I would not wake up and I could die. So my Way is to loose myself in my Book till my eyes drop. I am glad that you found something that helps you Wolfie I really am x

I've never heard of Valerian, but am glad to hear you have found something that works for you. Hopefully, being herbal it isn't addicting. I don't have much trouble sleeping, I have sleep apnea and have been on a CPAP machine for several years. I am now conditioned within minutes of putting on the mask I fall asleep.

I am lucky because I work hard and sleep well. If I have trouble going to sleep, a hot bath and cup of herbal tea usualy works.....but I hope this works for you and please let us know your result and if you think this will help others.

I have heard of the Valerian but have never tried taking it. My mom says that Melatonin works great to help her get to sleep, but it did nothing for me. I was taking a prescription sleeping pill for a while, but after I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, I decided that it probably wasn't a good idea to keep taking it. The only thing I take now is an occasional Tylenol PM.

Taking it one step at a time, and if I can achieve things day by day it can only help and sleep makes the difference to handling daytime probs as you know!

I suffer from insomnia too and have used Valerian in the past too and will again. You can get a herbal tea with it in now too in health food shops that works you just have to put honey in it for the taste. I'll find out the name for you I know it's by Dr someone and the box has pink ends.
