I live in a very small town in the US and in this town it is more common to have dial-up then dsl. There are maybe 4 of us on DSL at this time. The problem is that there is only one company that services this area and you can't get things like netzero and such here. The company charges way too much for DSL and I suppose I should fight it but when it is the only game in town you have to be careful. I pay $55 a month for my dsl which is awful since I paid about half that when I lived in the city. It really drives me nuts. The other thing is the dsl goes down all the time and the techs in our area have no clue how to fix it. So yes we still have dial-up connections here.

Tricia, I have just added you as a friend but why not call Qwest at 1-800-475-7526. This is the Customer Service number. This company services Nebraska. I don't know if they service your specific town or not. You can check it out on the web site www.qwest.com on the Internet section there is a spot to enter your address to see if you qualify for Broadband services. I suggest this because you can get 1.5 MB of downloading and 1 MB of uploading from that company for only $31.99 monthly. Just thought I'd tip you off to that one.

I still have dial up. I live way out in the middle of NO WHERE in Ontario Canada. I have been recently informed that I can get wireless but I must pay $1300!!! to bring a tower out here. I had thought about it and told the company yes i would do it as long as everyone who used my tower paid me some sort of user fee and the company laughed at me and said "I'm sorry we don't work that way" to which I replied "well I guess I don't work that way either" and I still have my dial up. Which truly sucks because I use my connection to download music and post on mylots.

I have a broadband connection. But there are areas in my country where broadband is not available yet. And if you are travelling it is easy to find a phone where you can dial up with your laptop and a modem while it is much harder to find a broadband connection available for you. So I think the old fashioned dial up will be there much longer even though most people have broadband.

Yes people are still using Dial-up service in my country but hardly few and most have converted themselves to broad,Dsl and cable networking so the speed is good and more reliable then Dial-up so it has become old fashioned way but good for those who needs to access internet sometimes ...... I am using lan networking so its okay for me and the speed is fine i will not say good enough but fine will be the better word to define 120kbps is the maximum speed ..........
