My beloved cat who was mentally retarted

I want to introduce you to my beloved Forrest who is deceased. I named him Forrest Gump after the movie because when I brought this kitten home I knew that there was something not quite right about him. He would walk about with his tail up over his back hanging between his eyes. He walked funny and did not seem all there, like the lights where on and no one was home. As Forrest grew it took him a year and a half before he learned how to purr, he was four before he could purr loudly without chocking. Forrest would go around a corner by the refrigator and get lost, he could not get out of the corner. One thing Forrest was was loyal, he was my pal, my love and my friend. For a lot of years I was very depressed and Forrest would seem to know when I was depressed he would snuggle up to me. He would sit on my lab when ever I sat down or he would sleep with me. A lot of the years I worked nights and my hubby worked days so Forrest and I had the bed to ourselves. Forrest had an eating problem, he ate everthing in site, candy wrappers, celephane, ribbon, spider webs, wood chips, and even his cat food. If you did not keep Forrest's food dish completly full he would beg you and hound you until you filled it full. I put Forrest on a diet one time and he ate everyting he was not suppose to he got so sick he scratched his throat vomiting and had to have a cortizone injection and antibiotics. Trying to give Forrest antibiotics was a chore. It ended up he was so sentistive to the stress of me giving him the pills he had to have shots. That is when I decided not to put Forrest on a diet ever again. When he died he was 20lbs and died of congestive heart failure from his weight. The photo of Forrest is him after a long day of supervising me hang pictures in my new home. He use to be involved with everything I did. I sure do miss him. He would be 10 years old if he had not had died.

Me too. I would love if you could add my beloved Caspar (Lily's big brother) to your page. He was run over last year, at the age of only 18 months, and I still think of him everyday. Thanks.

I will always remember your cat because of that name. It is good to cry, that is what keeps us strong.

It's amazing how some animals really seem to be in tune with our emotions. I've had many cats over my lifetime and some seem to be that way more than others. Ironically, the one I felt was most in sinc with my emotions was also a 'handicapped' feline. Makes you wonder....Thanks for sharing your story.

Yes his sister Sammie, she is just a cat. She is a love but she does nothing to stand out she is happy to just be second fiddle to Forrest. Now he is gone and we have Abigail and Abigail has more personallity than Sammie. I do love Sammie and she sleeps with my hubby and I but she is just a cat.

I loved reading this story about your Forrest...and it was so wonderful of you to take him in and love and care for him, even though he was a "challenged" kitty--I have a friend who had also taken in a "challenged" cat...his back legs weren't quite right...he couldn't walk like a normal cat and was literally always falling down..she named him Floppsy--despite his challenges of not being able to balance too well when he walked, he always would jump up on her bed to keep her company while she slept.--she cared and loved for him up until five years ago when he passed on as well--she has a special memorial photo of him hanging up --maybe your Forrest and her Floppsy are now playing together in the land of Bast

He sounds like a very special kitty and was lucky to have you as his 'human'. He looks so cool laying there on the bed, it almost looks like he is smiling. I am sorry for your loss and am sure you treasure his memories.

He was a slow boy but a most beloved boy. He had a bar stool he sat on infront of our wood stove. He would pat you on the rear end when you walked by. You never know when you where going to get a little goosen.

Wow that's an amazing story. I have a cat also named Forest I have always spelled it with a single r, in fact I didn't realise until this discussion that Forrest Gump had two r's. Anyway he is called Forest because he is a bit of a spud. When I moved recently He disappeared somewhere, I was calling and calling but I couldn't find him. I had to give up and go to work I figured if he was stressed he would be meowing (Both my cats are very vocal) When I got home - and he heard me come in. He started to meow and I found him behind the cooker!! How he had got there I will never know, it's a tiny space and the poor sod had been stuck there all day. I got him out and nursed his ego for the evening.

Before the movie was released we had a friend named Forrest and he spelled it with two "r's" so that is where the double r's came from. Is your Forest fat. Mine ate everything he could get into his mouth on. He was always doing stuff that was funny that people at work would ask me "What has Forrest been up to lately." Forrest remains very famous.

I am sorry for your loss. I know that if I ever lost my little girl I would feel the same way. My cat was a abandoned and she was very small for a cat. People told me that I would be lucky if she stuck around because she was so small. She is now almost 10 years of age (her birthday is the July 4th). She has a hairball caught in her intestine a year ago, but she fought it and now she is as fiesty as a young cat. It will take you along time to get over the loss of your baby, and even so, you never really forget them.

I am sorry that you lost your special friend. It sounds like he knew how to love very well even if he was a little slow. I have a cat that isn't quite right either but I believe he got brain damage from being beaten and thrown against a shed. I saved him from that house. And now he is doing better and doesn't seem as slow as he was when I first got him. I've had him about 5 years.

One of the problems that was I think that was wrong with Forrest was he was taken in the trunk of a car for about 40 miles and made to stay there until I picked him up around noon and that in the sunner of 97. I think he got carbon monoxide poisioning

Oh he was such a beautiful cat, and I am sad that he is no longer with you. He may have been “slow”, but you can see even from looking at his picture, that he had warmth and kindness flowing all the way through him. He may have had a short life, but it was full of love – both giving and receiving, and that is the most important thing I think.

It sounds like he was a very interesting cat. It could be nice if I could experience having a cat like that, but, then again, I am happy with the cat I already have =)

One of these days you will be lucky to have a special friend like Forrest. A friend has a slow boy like Forrest but his name is Stewart.

Oh my God, I am laughing through my tears. He solds like he was really special indeed. "It is the ones who need us the most, who give us the most trouble." I am so glad that Forrest had you and not some old mean person who could not appreciate his uniqueness. I am not retarded, but sometimes, I get lost going around the corner, LOL. Forrest Gump is one of my favorite movies. May Forrest rest in peace. God bless you. I am sorry for your loss.
