Is Math really that difficult?

Many students are having difficulty in Math. Most of them take up courses with lesser Math subjects. For me, Math is fun. Once you understand the logic behind those numbers, Math would be easy. I've competed in several Math Quiz Bees. I have won only 3 times but it was fun. Have you encountered any difficulties in Math when you were in school?

I think math is a little bit boring to but you must have interest in math to learn.

I always had a hard time with math, but my son does really well. He likes it and usually gets A's in math. He is going to be a Junior in high school and had math every year of school.

You must be proud of your son. Were you teaching him at home?

its not bad its real nice the way you use formulas and other techniques to solve the problem, math is fun and challenging

well, it depends. if you make it difficult, then its difficult, otherwise its not. Let me tell you this thing. I am a Geneticist. Aptitude for Mathematics is only ~11/% Heritability. What does this mean?It means that only 11% is contributed by your genes (that came from your mother and father)So where is the other 89&? This large percentage is contributed by the environment: study habits, motivation, the teacher, the influence of people to you and many more.So you can have a big room to change your aptitude to mathematics...Don't blame your mom and dad when you seem (?) to hardly understand math. remember, they contributed so little!

omg, from the 11% contributed by my mama, that would be dramatically reduced to much much less given her aptitude for it. no wonder, i turn out to be without figure. :)but i'm happy. just don't let me count publicly.

well we cannot term maths as difficult its all about understanding sometimes its gets too complicated and difficult to understand so its proves to be hard. Maths is all about logic and understanding.

I found math only difficult when I was not interested in solving the problems. Mathematics was my favourite subject for one reason it did not divert from the basic principals, theorems and laws available. Therefore the solution was inevitable.

I think it has to do more with whether you like it or not. I love math, and so I always excelled in it. The people that I know who don't do well in it, don't like it, and aren't really interested in it. Usually they are interested in history or science. I liked science, but never was really good at that, and as far as history, I never liked it. Terrible to say, but I always found it boring.

I think that's a myth and I always had bad skills on mathematics. But I have to admit that perhaps there were some facts that made me think it was difficult and not try enough to understand maths. There's a good article about some historical reasons for a lot of people think that maths are difficult here: http://pt.shvoong.com/exact-sciences/mathematics/1620114-math-hard-myth/

There are topics in math I am good at and some topics that I am really stupid. I am not good at word problems, like clock/time problems, "downstream ,upstream" problems etc. I know I am good at algebra and differential calculus except for maxima minima.

congrats on winning! I don't think math is impossible. I think like everything else it takes a lot of practice and maybe for some more than others. It also depends on the teacher. Some teachers are able to explain things very well so that everyone can understand them whereas other teachers a really bad and if you get to higher levels some are just teaching part-time to they can you the university's facilities to do their own research.

Math is easy only if you take the time to understand it and practice it. But considering normal people have no need for math in the normal day life we don't find a reason to practice math and look into it so we can find a beauty...

I think we deal with Math in our everyday lives. Everywhere we go we find numbers. I think those rich people really know how to manipulate these numbers.

No, we only deal with elementary algebra, which we learn during elementary school. I'd be interested to know how often does a usual person use calculus or stuff like that...

If it's not your like though you tried to like it, then it's really difficult like math! Math is exciting to those people who loves analysis. But we can't really deny that there are people who dont like analysis. like me. It's very brain draining.. :(

i hate it. i passed it in elementary and high school maybe because i was pitiful my teachers just have let me go. and some thought that because i was good with other subjects, they missed it that i was really bad in math maybe i was good in copying from my seatmate. i never developed the liking in college- i either withdraw some, dropped some, failed some, barely passed some just because my teachers we're my cousin's friends., it was pathetic. one time i have to chase my instructor across campus just to give me remedials in statistics. maybe i looked such a pitiful wreck she had to give in to me. that was one of my most embarrassing moments. now i still have struggles with numbers, i'm conditinal with stat again for compre exams i have to confront it sooner or later. sometimes i think it can be fun if i really would focus on practicing, but i just can't focus and hate for it would again dominate. i wish i knew what logic are you talking about behind math, so that i would also learn to love it. but then i hat logic too. i'm a hopeless case!

Math is difficult? Nope, I don't think so. I've always had good grades in math and never asked for help or taken courses where there was little math (even because I couldn't choose which courses attend) and I even chose a scientific high school where math was the base course. Of course these choises were made based on what I liked and I always loved math, the logic is fantastic and maybe I don't think it's difficult because I love "brain teasers" more difficult a problem is, more I like it. Of course I lacked in grammar and italian (my language) composition ;)

Well not really. You? Competed? You must be really good. Yes I've encountered math difficulties, but that's true, once you understand the logic behind every phrase of them, it wouldn't be as much hard anymore. :)
