Strawberry picking

Yesterday my boyfriend went out for a big breakfast and then we went strawberry picking. I have never been before and actually, he hadn't either. So we went to this place we had found the day before. We brought a basket and a big plastic bowl. Brought it to the stand and they tagged the containers with a weight. Then we went out into the field and picked strawberries. It was so much fun. Everytime I found a nice big strawberry I got really excited. I was worse than a little kid. We got about 15 pounds of fresh and juicy strawberries! We packed some up for my boyfriend's mom and brother. I froze two big Ziploc bags. I put some with a little sprinkle of equal in the fridge to make strawberry shortcake. Then we used some to make homemade strawberry ice cream. Yum. I still have about 3/4 of the basket left to do something with. I suppose I'll do up some more and freeze them. I'll also attempt making strawberry jam. I'd love to go back to the place before the end of strawberry season.

It sounds like a lovely time! I love strawberries, but I have never been strawberry picking either. We'd never use that many before they went bad. We really don't have anyone that we can give them to either or rather share with. I bet though it was something fun to do. :)

It was definitely fun. I froze a LOT of them. So I can use them when I want them. But I definitely see what you mean.

Wow that sounds really fun. I wonder if there is any place in our area to do that. I haven't heard of any. I love strawberries.

It was a lot of fun. I'd love to do it every summer! We got lucky and drove by this place on our way somewhere the other day. It's not a way we normally go so it took until the other day to know there was a place there. There are also a couple others around the area. You could try going to any search engine and try typing in, strawberry picking +(enter your city here) ...minus the (). Good luck and maybe there's a place you can go and get soem berries!

Yummy! I love strawberries. I've never been strawberry picking, though. It's kind of crazy, because I lived just down the road from a farm that did that when I was growing up, but my mom always just bought them at the grocery store instead. I don't know if there is anywhere around here that we could pick strawberries. Right now my son is still too little, though, so we will wait a while before even looking. It sounds like you are making all kinds of yummy stuff with the strawberries you picked! I love strawberry shortcake. We make it almost every time we get strawberries. And then we just eat the rest of them plain. lol Strawberry jam does sound really yummy, too, though.

It was just so much fun. And it was incredibly cheap too, since you do all the labor of them. Plus you pick them so you determine the quality of the berries you get. It was only $1.19/pound! So it was well worth picking all those berries in the heat yesterday!

My husband and I are addicted to Strawberries and have a weekend ritual all the way through Strawberry season. Every Saturday we travel to the farms to get our produce fresh and try Strawberries from each farm to see which are best. As the season goes on different farms have different types of Strawberries and we try them all. Problem is we eat half of them before we ever make it home. We usually by them picked, but when we go to U-Picks we eat more than we put in our containers!

Yeah it's hard not to eat them before you get home. We managed to not eat any but the minute we got home we started in. And of course while I am cutting them up for stuff I'm sneaking pieces. haha
