yes i would leave to work abroad if i am a nurse. not because i dont want to serve my fellow filipino but i have to make a living and to earn money as well. i am a singer and i do sing abroad for the same reasons that i need to earn money to live. this doesnt apply only to nurses but i think to every person who had studied hard and want to earn good.

Nicely said... I'm also of the belief that hard work should pay off... but I also think about the effects it might have on our own work force

A few years back, I would've said "No". I love our country and I've always firmly believed that for the Philippines to progress, professionals should stay and try to make the country more competitive. But now, after 2 years in the US with 2 kids and seeing the condition of the Philippines, I would probably think twice about working here. The pay is low and employers rarely have some sense of "family time". The prices (especially gas prices) continually go up despite a stronger peso. Plus, you realize that there is corruption everywhere except that in the Philippines, officials are too greedy to even give back a little bit to the country.

It's good to know of your success story there.... I believe though that the professional brain drain will eventually stop...

even if i am not a nurse, if i am to be given i chance, i will definitely go abroad to work and earn better. not that i dont like my work here.. its just that sometimes we have to find better opportunities - there are some here too, but they can never be as good as if it is offered out of your country - as i see it. in the philippines, a big part of the income goes to taxes, and yet we dont see anything improved, its just sad that we have worked hard for the money we get and all the politicians just fight more and still thinks of their personal interest. it is just depressing.

I could never work abroad because the US already has such a huge shortage and I could never uproot my children. I am a mom first and foremost.

Hi, I am from India, and ours is a developing nation. Here many people are studying nursing hoipng that they will get jobs abroad in USA or European countries. There is a greate demand for nurses there, and I think there is nothing wrong in this decision. It is like any other profession.

Yeah, why not. I mean if there isn't any job for me here in my country, then why limit myself here? So it's ok if I leave. I'm still single and can do anything I want. =) Top 10 reasons to become a nurse 1. 2. Pays better than fast food, though the hours aren't as good. 3. Fashionable shoes & sexy white uniforms. 4. Needles: It's better to give than to receive. 5. Reassure your patients that all bleeding stops....eventually. 6. Expose yourself to rare, exotic, & exciting new diseases. 7. Interesting aromas. 8. Do enough charting to navigate around the world. 9. Celebrate the holidays with all your friends.....at work. 10. Take comfort that most of your patients survive no matter what you do to them. Courteous & infallible doctors who always leave clear orders in perfectly legible handwriting. =)

If I would have given a good earning opportunity outside my country I would have surely gone to abroad to earn good amount of money for myself.

It depends on the person. If you are nationalistic enough you should stay here and fill up the vaccum forming in our country for nurses. But then you'll have to face the consequences of being underpaid in here and work harder. In my situation in here, having a small family the need to support them is difficult if I would have to work here as a nurse so I do have no choice but to seek opportunities abroad where my worth is a much higher than what I would be recieving in here. It's a matter of practical choice rather than a personal choice anymore.

If I were a nurse maybe i would leave to work abroad. It pays alot compared here in philippines. I'll work there for years to save enough money and go back in philippines and maybe i can serve voluntary on hospitals =)
