Fred's Got A Friend

I've had my pet frog now for nearly two weeks now and he's really happy, well fed by his master yours truly happily dining away on fresh alive but dozy flies and mosquitoes, but he was missing something, I guess that's why he often sits on his rock staring waiting for his next meal. Then, at 5.30am this morning Fred gets a very welcomed visitor! We managed to rescue out the clutches of our youngest cat another Frog! woohooo! They've been hugged up together all today and the new one was actually croaking this morning! So NOW I've got to catch double the amount of flies and if we get any more I'll have to get a bigger aquarium and if they are well you know of different gender then we'll have a big family! In the Winter I can order them some mail order crickets to take away! Or eat in or whatever! Gonna find out how to tell the difference between a male frog and a female one, soon me thinks! Any names apart from Fredina (girl) They are so cute sitting together on the rock just now!

Aah that's so sweet! I've always loved frogs, I rescues one once from the middle of the road in my street. My parents let my keep him for a while, and I named him lucky, but we didn't have the right equipment to keep him for too long, as I understand they need great care, and the right conditions for living. We released him into a nearby pond, as we practically lived on a mountain. Another time i gathered some tadpoles from a puddle that was rapidly drying up, and they grew into frogs, and it was mayhem at our house for a while! Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to keep them either probably best since there were so many of them! So I'll have to make do with my hamster, Chuck, for now, who is as cute as ever though! On a student's budget I couldn't afford to get an aquarium or anything to keep a frog... or as my lifelong dream, a gecko... but it's lucky your cat has such a talent for finding you new pets!

Lol wolfie, you should open up a matching office for frogs, my friend. You are doing extremely well here:)) Well seriously now, i am happy that he or she has got a friend, and that you will never ever have another fly problem:) And i looked it up and found you an answer about who is the female on who is the male, i am pasting it: "It is easy to tell whether a frog is male or female during the breeding season (February/March). During this time the male develops dark pads on his forelimbs called nuptial pads. Also during this time the skin of the female becomes rough to the touch, so that it is easy for the male to identify a female. At other times of the year it is more difficult. Generally males are slightly larger, and tend to have longer digits on their forelimbs. Another difference is that the male croaks, and the female doesn't." Hope this helps:))

PMSL thanks for making me laugh too my friend, I have just realized that it wasn't Fred that was croaking this morning it was his friend, so that makes it that Fred is actually female and his friend we found this morning is male oooooer, now that gets complicated LOL!

Why not call her ( I have decided it is a she) Wilma - get it Fred and Wilma! I can just see you surrounded by hundreds of frogs by the beginning of winter and I am NOT helping you name them all - even if I do love you loads! lol xxx

Awwww, how cute...if they are male and female look out or you will have to catch a whole lot more flies, lol. I think it's great that he has a new friend to keep him company. Maybe your youngest cat knew Fred was lonely and wanted a friend. :-)

It's amazing before I had the frogs we had an unlimitless amount of flies coming in and pestering me now that we have frogs, the flies seem to be staying away hmmmmp, mind you when I see one I have to drop everything and chase it! (I sound crazy!)

You don't sound crazy too me at all. I would be doing the same thing if I had frogs. Flies are smarter than we think sometimes. They are probably hiding out somewhere watching you look for them. We are probably entertainment for them. Lol

Hi Wolfie - I like frogs too, but don't have any. One day I'd like to have a Chameleon as I love the way they can change colours. Till then I've got my sheep, chickens, cats and dogs to keep me company. What a stroke of luck eh - young Fred getting a mate! Great that it wasn't injured. As for a name... Ji - it means lucky in Chinese!

I think that's wonderful that Fred has found a new friend. I have the book somewhere about frogs as my daughter used to keep them. Good luck with Fred's new friend.

Oh my goodness wolfie, I honestly can't imagine you catching those flies and mosquitoes for your two little babies. They sure sound adorable and cute sitting together. I can only think of Faylinn, Fayette and Frenchie. You can mix and match the letters.

Awww Wolfie. Your youngest cat has been having a chat with Fred methinks and then went and got him a little playmate LOL. I would suggest though that if you're not doing so well at catching flies and stuff, it might be an idea to go to your local pet store or garden centre where you should be able to find some food specially for them. That way you're not constantly running around like a madman trying to swat flies for them lol. I can't think of any names that really go with fred apart from Rose, and Rose doesn't really suit a frog does it? LOL.
