Some people on here clearly lack imagination

June 20, 2007 7:51pm CST
I know tht we really have to geto our inspiration for discussions from somewhere and it is invaribly myLot as this is where we are when we are typing them but I seriously think that alot of people have no imagination. Now first off I know my discussions may not be the greatest and I know alot of people don't seem to agree with what I say. But why on earth are there so many discussions regarding pizza? In the last week or so I have seen everything you could possibly ask regarding pizza and I know it's a great food and stuff but obviously people are just trying to start something that everyone can say something on and they can't seriously care enough about pizza that they want to read about everytime they log on to myLot. I think that myLot should implement sections for "discussions that want loads of responses" and "quality worthwhile discussions". It would make the searching for a discussion to respond to process a hell of a lot easier than wanting to shift through all that rubbish.

I agree with you. I am finding it harder and harder to find decent good quality discussions to reply to these days. I seem to spend more time weeding through the "rubbish" than I do responding to decent discussions.

A wise one once said, be the change you want to see in others. If you don't like the post, make some of your own, this is what I do.

I don't know, Pizza is a pretty important topic. Did you know that when soldiers are in the field, we often talk about what food we are looking forward to when we redeploy home? Guess what the most commonly mentioned food is... PIZZA. ;~D Ok, I think that is the extent of the interesting angles I can come up with regarding pizza... and to think I wasted it on a comment instead of capitalizing on it for a discussion of my own! ;~D

I know it's annoying although I suppose at least they make some kind of effort. I can't really complain because I don't start that many discussions anyway. I can never think of anything to post about and I just refuse to get into the whole "Coke or Pepsi" thing or else people will talk about me too lol! I agree it would be good though if another couple of sections were added - like "survey questions" which would accomodate the coke or pepsi ones and maybe "myLot just paid me" discussions cos that's another frequent topic. Oh and of course "I'm leaving myLot" and "I've changed my mind and I'm not leaving myLot now". That way I could avoid the ones that bug me the most.

PMPL - look at all the posts about pizza underneath this one! I wonder if any of them will respond to this one?

I think the problem is that most topics have been discussed dozens of times. That makes it difficult to come up with new subjects. And if you happpen to come up with some off the wall idea, not many people can relate to it. Mylot will always be about rehashing the same topics, at some later point, with mostly newer posters. Many topics, while they might not have been discussed, are not that interesting and won't draw a lot of action. I think there is a limit to the reallly good topics available for discussion. Imagination does enter into the picture, but while all of us have some imagination, others have one that is more developed or that they are more in tune with. A lot of people just come here to add their two cents, mnake thier penny and a half and that is it. By far, there are many more 1,2 or 3 sentence replies and that implies people are here not for conversation, but to make money. That is how I see it. You have a good idea about dividing discussions into sections according to quality. Only thing is, who determines what a quality discussion is?

Thanks for your comments and support. I often go from longer posts to shorter ones. I really don't know if it matters moneywise. In my view, the ratings are kind of misleading. Just about everyone should be a 9 or 10, there isn't that much difference between the two. I agree, there is a lot to be learned form others, especially those from other areas and countries.

Amen, I could not have said it better myself. I wish people would get off their high horse and live and let live. It does not make any sense to attack others just because you are in an obvious slump. I can see why you have a ten rating you have earned it. But, I have to tell you one thing. For a long time, I was giving long quality dicussions, then just the other day, I tried doing a lot of short and to the point ones and I made more than I had ever made here. Not just the money, I also enjoy exchanging ideas and learning from people from all walks of life. I am obsessed with learning and this is a very enriching experience for me. There are just so many things to accomplish on this one site. Make extra money, learn, catch up on the news, interact with others, get help with pressing problems, and believe me I could go on, but you get my drift, it's pretty cool.

I don't know, maybe we are where we are because we don't know everything. I made a post about Pizza and when I come up with another angle, I may do it again. I think that there should also be a place for the negative, miserable complainers. If I don't like a topic, I keep going until I find one, good advice!!!

Well obviously you didnt like my one so why the f*ck are you here. And to that comment earlier. Yes there are millions of discussions speaking about others discussions but they are all unique. That's like saying if you have seen one case of psychology you have seen them all and that is so not true.

You loved at my page? Right do you want know why I dont his discussion. Because a few moments before that I had been looking for stuff to reply ot and i constantly saw alot of discussions relating to pizza. Now I like pizza as much as the next person and if it had all been about burgers or sausages I wo uld have posted the same but my point being that clearly alot of people on here see and respond to discussions regarding pizza and then sit and think...."ummm.....I really need to make a discussion, something that alot of people will respond to to boost my popularity...I'll think I'll dop one on pizza too cos these ones have lots of responses." I didn't say that it was to you personally. This is aimed all the people who clearly just want responses and have decided to jump on the pizza bandwagon because its a very lame topic that doesnt offend anyone and therefore can only make them look good. I personally find that it just fills up the myLot community with discussions that no one really cares to make an actual discussion. What can you really say to someones response regarding pizza except yum, very nice. No personal attack on you, just people who write up topics that really offer no major interest in reading. This here is a personal attack on me. You have come into my well thought out discussion to just slate me and make me out to be something I am not. I bid you good day!

I feel that I WAS personally attacked. When you make a general statement and that statement includes me then I have a right to be offended. It was very prejudice of her to say that people who make post about pizza lacks imagination. That is like saying, all the people of one race are a certain way. I loved at her page and if anyone on here lacks imagination, it is definitely her. You should make topics that everyone can relate to. Making topics that only a select few can relate to is my idea of lack of imagination. I believe that she is just frustrating and lashed out.

You're right. It's sad to see several discussions about anything shallow dominate myLot, and is even sadder admit that I have posted some of them in my first moments here. I understand the other side...some people just want to accumulate posts, and go on a flooding frenzy, actually wasting their time here. Now I've realized this is not the way. I've searched for themes of my interest, and I found many good topics to be discussed, many not answered at all, others with the last answer 7 months ago, because no one tried to continue thinking about the subject, engaging in a real discussion, wich could lead to an exchange of knowledge and ideas. Change it is like an ant's work, one by one, we should do our part about it, tough it does sound very "cliche", even to me, and I'm doing my part.

Wow! Eadward, what a fantastic response and I am glad to see you are just a lovely little newbie in this myLottian world and you have already grasped the concept of quality posts. I am sure if continue like this we can let you off with your little pizza discussion. Great to have you on board. Make sure you buddy me up. Gotta go to work

Oopsie - I ht the Post Response button too soon. It seems that a lot of the good discussions that are guidelinee-compliant are vanishing for no apparent reason, & others that do violate the guidelines that, as you say, clearly lack imagination, are still around.

When I first joined MyLot, there were a rash of insane discussions that were probably untrue. In these insane discussions, which were probably completely made up, were things like one we both responded to. Then there were several discussions in which the guy posting the discussion was saying that his sister was pregnant with his baby, or his sister was the best he ever had ... ironically, imaginations were running wild trying to get responses. Even then, most of those responses were flames. Most of them were telling the guy who started the discussion that he was (to put it politely) just dirt that needed to be cleaned away. Then there were the ones calling him a big liar that was just posting to get responses & posting just for the cash.

I haven't posted very many discussions here, but do look for inspiration (which happens suddenly), not everyone reads the discussions which I start, but I quite often get several responses to the responses which I give for other peoples discussions (not all agreeing with me either). I also like to research what I do start discussions about which can take time as well. (In fact most of the recent discussions I've started have had less than 5 responses, so obviously not many people like what I write about - but that is up to them anyway), so I can make a more positive contribution to replying to other people's discussions than starting many of my own.

Im hearing you...I think its a mindless dumb way to try and get some answers...Its the same when Paris Hilton went to jail...Why did (seems like) 20 thousand people have to start the same discussion. In the guidelines it says to research your discussion before starting. Obviously these people do not. We need variety to our dscussions not silly little questions.

This made me to start a thread earlier ago.Of why people keep on asking or questioning which do we prefer Pizza/cake,Cat/Dog,Cat woman/Batman kinda make-one-choice questions threads just for the heck of earning a cent. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/901202.aspx Mylot should have some techy software which will reject any non worthwhile discussions that are being repeated time and again,if the new thread has some related and matching questionaires that are already started earlier.

You are so right. I really wish that I had a 10, 100/100 rating like you. Tell me your secret to success and I will help you pass it on, O great one. Decussions judging others don't come up nearly as much as they should.

It's a good thing you noticed this, as I did encountered lots of post about it too. Not only pizza, there are topics talking about colors up to ratings, etc.. These topics are indeed strong contenders for deletions, so I make sure that I don't post at them. Mylot has already explained that we should post "quality" and "contributive posts" in order to earn and provide information for those who seek it. That is one of the main goals why mylot is here, which mylot users should take a good consideration at and not just a typical money-making site.

The point that I am trying to make is that you should not make post that are going to offend people. We should work as a team. Not one person putting down other people. Everyone on here is doing the best that they can and it is really to bad that some people can not see and appreciate that. I am sorry that you feel that I messed up your topic, but everyone that comes across your topics are not going to agree with you.

I'm hoping it's mostly due to it being the start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, and pepole are outside, on vacay, or have "school's out, can't sit inside all day" syndrome. It is boring to weed through tons of uninteresting fluff to the good stuff. Here's hoping for a fall resurgence!
