When do you usually go to the bank and deposit, do you keep the deposit slip with you? I am just curious about this. Most of the time I throw them after every transaction. Until one day, I discovered that my account was not updated. So I tried to ask the bank officers. Then they asked me for the deposit slip. Unfortunately I can't show anything. Do you think it is really important to keep them. Just like what happened to me? Thanks for helping. GOD bless!

I will keep it for some time. If something wrong, then at least I can check back and have a proof. So usually I will keep it for a month, after that I will throw it away.

In India, you get a booklet and that will have counterfoils. AFter making deposits, one portion is retained by the bank and the other will remain in the book. I retain it until the accounts are finalised for income tax and later I destory it.

Now most banks have to core banking with transactions all over the country and as a result, entries are made in the account within minutes of depositing the money. This solves all the tension, despositors have. Have a nice day.

I keep all reciepts from the bank. I had an experience where the deposit I'd made hadn't gone through. Luckily I had the reciept as proof. Their computers had a major glitch that day and it recorded it luckily before they went down. SO I was fortunate to have the reciept as proof. tHINGS WERE STRAIGHTENED OUT RIGHT =AWAY HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Thats a good example of keeping the deposit slips, i keep it for a period of time and then through away after a couple of months. The problem in this kinds of situations when you have thwon the reciept and have no way of checking the entries and the account numbers.

Yes, I keep all my deposit slips, even receipts, except for common or normal shopping ones. But aside from that, yes I like to keep track of everything that I have do in terms of money, whether that is depositing or spending, just in case something goes wrong on their side of things, I have some kind of proof or evidence to back up my actions.

Slips and receipts can be used as our proofs or evidence, I agree on that my friend. That is why I appreciate keeping them now unlike before. My bad experience taught me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this matter. GOd bless!

I keep then for a month and when I get my monthly statement I throw them out. Reason is that there has been glitches at my back and would like to keep the record until I know it has definetely gone through correctly. Vicki

I keep the latest deposit and withdrawal slip and the last ATM transaction receipt. I counter check every time I make a transaction, just to make sure that there aren't any discrepancies. And if I do see something wrong with my account balance, at least I have proof, which I can show to the bank officers to stress my point. I also don't throw my transaction slips at the waste bin provided near the ATMs or bank branches. I throw it at home, just to be sure. Hope this helps.

Yes, just for the sake of doing so although I have never even looked back or touched any of them. But the point is, when something unexpected does throw up, atleast you know you have evidence and proof the back up your claims.

I do try to keep my deposit slips to have a record of my transactions. But when I misplace it, I just check my account online. Although keeping the transaction/deposit slip is helpful in knowing your balance account, sometimes it's a little bit space hungry. I just said that because my dad kept all his transaction slips from the bank since he was still single up to now. Just imagine the boxes kept in our house. He wouldn't let us throw it. =)

Let me guess, the amount of deposit slips now amounted to more than a million. Am I right? That is so rare collection. Hehehe I just can't help laughing because what I have seen on tv was someone collecting receipts from a fastfood chain that is Mc Donalds since year 90's to present only. LOL. Just don't throw the slips of your dad. I think you can give him a suggestion, just like what someone said here: to change the wall paper using the deposit slip. I can imagine it can fill all over your house. LOL. I am amused by what you shared. Thanks for making me laugh. God bless!

I keep them for a long time, probably too long, sometimes as long as years. But, then I'm a packrat and keep all kinds of things that I think might be useful. Not too long ago I shredded a lot of deposit slips and bank statements that were more than a decade old and for an account I don't have anymore.

DEFINITELY!!! I do keep a copy of my deposit slips. This is the only proof that i Have put money into my account. Especially the transaction receipts from the ATM. You can keep them for...what about 3 months. Once you've updated all your records and don't want lots of paper in the house, you can throw them. Not just the deposit slips, all receipts you've paid. Especially the utility bills.

I usually do and file them away in a box I have for bank receipts. There was an incident where I got a receipt and had not checked to see the details were correct. I walked away and was about to catch my bus when I took a look at the receipt and noticed it was no my bank account number. I marched right back in and told the teller the mistake, he quickly apologised and said that he gave me someone elses receipt as my one was sitting right there on the counter. Phew lucky! I doublechecked the transaction online the next day to make sure the deposit was there :)

This happened to my sister too, the only thing was that she made a transaction while someone else's account was credited. I was a mistake that I found a day after. So we went to the teller and told them what happen. My sister did not checked that she received a receipt with someone else's name. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. GOD bless!

I have to queue at the branch to deposit the money. And there are ATMs at the branch. So after I deposited the money, I will check right away. If it is correct, all's good. So I will then throw away the deposit slip. ;-)

I learned the hard way that we need to keep the deposit slip. I used toss them and one day I made a deposit of $500, and and never bothered to check to see if it was correct. Well the tell made a mistake and only put $50, I didn't realize it until I had overdrawn my account, thank god for bounce pertection. when I went to the bank the tell that had helped me wasn't there so the bank wouldn't correct the mistake till they talked to her. I was lucky it was a small town bank that I had used for years and when they finally did talk to the tell she remembered and said I had deposited my paycheck for $500. I was very fortunate they corrected the mistake.

We really need to pay attention not just to our jobs but for the jobs offered to us by someone just like the bank tellers. They too are human to commit mistakes. So we need to check everything. Thank you so much my friend for sharing the story. I appreciate it and keep learning. God bless!
