Hello everyone! I would like to know: what kind of Prog Metal you guys like most? I mean, DT kinda style, SX kinda style, PoS, or other stuff? I enjoy very much all of them. My favorite bands are: SX style: Symphony X, Evergrey, Shadow Gallery, Redepmtion, Time Requiem, Threslhold and Secret Sphere. DT style: Dream Theater, Beyond Twilight, Circus Maximus, Fates Warning and A.C.T PoS style: Pain of Salvation, Frost*, Porcupine Tree, some A.C.T stuff also can be classified like this style, i guess. Frameshift, also, witch i couldn't classify in any of the categories above The instrumental/solo albuns i most enjoy are: Enter by the 12th Gate - Michael Pinnella: awesome keyboard instrumental prog rock/metal. Rhythm of Time - Jordan Rudess kinda random musics, but, really good one Liquid Tension Experiment: i guess you all know this one... Well, hope you to talk about it \o\ Cya!

SX style: Symphony X, Evergrey, Redemption, some of Threshold and I guess that's it. DT style.... only DT, hahaha The other ones are so DT-like that it's impossible for me to like them. PoS style: some of PoS, Frost*, Porcupine and something by Ayreon and Star One. There are a lot of DT songs I really like, but right now, I'm into SX (duh), F*, Porcupine Tree and Redemption. I highly recommend that any progmetal fan listen to the Frost* album, which is a new band but one of the best Ive ever heard.

I didn't talk about Ayeron or Star One since i can't even classify them in any style xD But i do enjoy those bands, they sound really great and unique. As you, i'm now really into SX and this kind of style. :)

Symphony X is one of my favorite bands ever, but as far as my next favorite prog band, I'd have to go with a DT style band (the other neo-classical bands are ok, but they just can't compare to SX for me, at least). I guess that would be Dream Theater (especially their stuff on When Dream and Day Unite, even though it's nothing like their present material). I also like Fates Warning a lot, too. I also like Liquid Tension Experiment, and although I haven't heard Jordan Rudess' or Michael Pinnella's (he's from SX, right?) solo stuff, I'm sure I'd like it. I've heard of PoS, but never listened to 'em. How would you describe their style/sound or maybe compare them to some of the other bands you listed?

Man, no doubts, you would really enjoy Rudess' and Pinnella's albums. Rudess has made lots of solo albums, like Rhythm of Time, Feeding the Wheel, Rudess & Morgenstein Project, and other stuff, you can see his discography at www.jordanrudess.com Pinnella has made only one album, named Enter by the 12th Gate, and it's really awesome. Great patches, great lead sections, and great piano with orchestra sections as well. You really should check 'em out! Well, talking about Pain of Salvation, i can't really define their style, or how they sound like, but i'll try xD They're not the type of band that use to do extremely fast lead sections, duet guitars with keyboards or anything like this, so, don't listen to PoS hoping to hear wild guitar solos. The drums are REALLY complete and complex, sometimes, even more than DT, that's one of my favorite things on PoS. Daniel Gildenlöw is the vocalist, and, one of my favorite five ones. He can down his voice low and up it high really well, and, the way he does it, sounds extremely perfect and fits on the music. I can't really define how they sound like, since they're not so... meticulous... or systematic, if you will. I would recommend you to listen to my favorite albums, because i guess they're easier to kind of get used to the band's style. The albums are: The Perfect Element and Remedy Lane. Hope you really enjoy the band :)
