Why does my cat run away?

Sometimes when I walk near my cat, he makes a funny cry and runs away fast. But, then later he comes up to me, and rubs my hand as if nothing's wrong. Do you think he's afraid of me? Or, does he think I'm chasing him?

I thnk he's tryng to play. He wants you to chase him. My cat will make a noise and run away all of a sudden just to run back a second later and jump at me. He does the same thing to my dog.

I agree. Our female cats does the same thing. She just is looking for someone to play with, sometimes just to chase her around.

I think that you will find that he just wants to play. My cats do that all time, so I do chase them and they have their little skitzo run around the house then they are fine.

Cats are playfull by nature. Chances are your cat wants to play. If you cat is afraid of you it will most likely hiss, crouch down and put its ears back. Cats are very loyal, they always come back to you.

It's possible that he wants you to play. Does he kind run with a little bounce to his step, or does he kind crouch and sulk away? If it's the latter, then it may be the way you are approaching him. Cats can be sensitive about how they are approached. If you are loud and quick, then it might scare him. But, if he just bounces away and makes a little chirp, then he's probably trying to either get you to chase him, or he just wants to go where you're going.
