It's holiday time or maybe in your country it's coming. Some people rather stay in their own country.I wonder how many of you are ging to a foreign country.Me i live in the Netherlands and staying in Holland is not a great idea for holidays cuz most of the times it's cold and rainy. So this year i will go to Italy. But there are always dutch people who rather stay in the Netherlands. I know that lot of Italian people going on holiday in their own country and they are right because it's a beautiful and big country. The reason why i am going to a foreign country is because i really want to leave netherlands so i will not think of all the problems going on or thinking about my job. So Do you stay in your country or do you leave and what is your reason?

Hi E, Oh I in someways I wish we had an American extended summer holiday season like many places in Europe. It is just not an option in our economy.(Here) Depending on where you work the amount of time off you have is an individual thing. I am lucky I have been at my job just long enough to have a 25 day per year bank of time to use for sick days or vacation. The incentive is the less sick days the more time to play. I am taking a set of long weekends this summer to go back to my home state which is so different than where I am now that it is like going to a foreign country!!! I traveled when I was younger and had a part time job to pay for all my little treats like vacations, clothes and cars. I am focused on saving now. I am soooo boring these days. Italy sounds great. I will just have to live vicariously through you. Have a wonderful and safe time no matter what you do this summer.

Thanks for your reply.I've heard that you really have less days off then in Europe.I also heard that if you would go on holidays that there's a big chance that someone else has taken your place when you return from holidays.I hope your country will realise that life ain't all about working but we work to live.I also have 25 days a year but when i get sick and that happens this year for three times already i still have 25 days plus the 12 extra dats we have and the bank holidays.I hope you will be able to go on real good holidays in the future. If i'd ever become a milionaire i will make sure you will get the holidays you deserve.Or you can come living in the Netherlans we're the country with one of the most holidays :-).

If only someone would take my place!!! My work just piles up and waits for me to return. Believe me nobody wants my job. It makes me very secure. That was very funny of you. Yes we focus too much on work. 12 holiday days wow that is more than the norm here we only get 9. Let's compare I think you will find some of the days odd. 1 New Year's Day Jan 1st. 2. President's Day -George Washington and Abraham Lincoln used to have their own day on their bithday but now it is combined. Oh no!! one of the men most responsible for the foundation of our country and the man who ended the civil war and ended slavery. Would it be too much to give them their own day? 3. Memorial Day (End of May) No Nothing in March or April-Easter always falls on a Sunday so no luck there! 4. The 4th of July 5. Labor Day (September) Which is ironic 'cause most people do not work on that day. I miss not having Columbus Day off in October ( Columbus is not thought very highly of these Days) 6. Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after (7). Yep t'giving always falls on a Thursday. When Abraham Lincoln created the holiday by signing it into law he made it that way. 8. Christmas Eve If it falls on a Weekday. 9. Christmas Day. Also if it falls on a weekday. They may give us the day before or after if xmas falls on a weekend. 10. Possibly there is a 10th New Years Eve -again depending on the day it falls on.

That ain't very much. We have. 1.New years day.Used to have the day before off too. 2.Easter one day. 3.Queensday. 4.carnaval it's a festivity when people dress up like everything they can be just like in rio de janeiro. 5.Good Friday (not in every part of Holland)Sometimes even white Thursday. 6.Liberation day (5th of may) Not in every part of Holland. 7.Hemelvaart which is a christian holiday.= two days. The day after we get off too. 8.Pinksteren well christian holiday just like Hemelvaart. 9.Christmas we have First Christmas Day and Second Christmas day so we have two days off. 10.Old years day not in every part of Holland. So it's 10 festivities but with some more days.Than we also have 12 other days above the 25 days off,but it also depends on what kind of job you have. We also have companies who work in the same way as american companies and i'm afraid my company will take the american system.I really do hope they won't but things are changing here too in a bad way.

Yea, I love traveling and always have plan for traveling. However most of the plan will be adjusted or postponed due to some emergency cases happened. I had travelled to japan, bangkok and singapore. I have planned to go to Australia by end of this year. There is family emergency, and the money that saved for the plan has now gone, and therefore has to postpone the trip again. Our annual leave is only 12 days a year, so not much holiday we have.

Those are beautiful places.I've been to Malaysia Indonesia Germany French (with school) Belgium and Italy for so far.My parents had payed the holidays and this year i'm paying it myself.Malaysia and Indonesia were for us very cheap because we have family over there. We had one emergency while on holiday once and we had times also that we couldn't go on holidays also emergencies. We often go for 14 days on holidays and no more. I hope you will manage to have some good holidays without emergencies.

I live in the U.S. and our country is so huge that there is a lot to see and do without leaving it. We are hoping to travel from Ohio to S. Dakota in September. That is an 18 hour drive, if you drive without stopping. But we will take several days going and coming. I've not be far outside the U.S. I have a daughter in Toronto, so we visit there. And I've been to Bermuda and the Bahama Islands. We crossed the border into Mexico just far enough to say we'd been to Mexico, but I've not seen any of the beautiful sights there. It is so expensive for us to travel to another country that I doubt if I will ever get to travel abroad. But I do enjoy traveling to different parts of the U.S. My favorite part of the country is the southwest - New Mexico, California. I also enjoyed the coast of Oregon. But there is so much more to see that I imagine it will take me years to see all the sights I hope to see here. I love the mountains on both sides of the country, as well as both coasts. And in between are some amazing sights. I hope someday you can come to the U.S. even if I never make it to the Netherlands. (I'm 65 and don't have as much future to travel as you do.)

Thanks for sharing.U.S is indeed very big just like canada.I also have family in Canada.I've never been to America nor Canada but it's in my future plans.I hear so many things from my family and i have some friends studying in America so i'm getting more curious by the year.I love the landscapes in countries if i could travel around the world i would do so. Netherlands to me isn't suchg a great country because it rains a lot,but there are beautiful places. The funny thing with the Netherlands is that it's so small that it's taking only 3 hours to get in an other country.I think the Netherlands is only 200 miles i guess, but worth the try.Well you never know what the future brings :-)
