Years ago, my grandmother told me that you can keep mosquitos out of your house, if you grow marigolds by your front door. Does anyone know if this is true?

My mother did the same thing and I think I picked up the habit from her. One of our neighbors said that you can dry out a marigold on the window sill and then break it open and you have free seeds for more marigolds. I just remembered that one and will have to try it when I get my garden going strong again. We have tons of mosquitos here, so maybe it is true and marigolds will keep them away. I can only hope! Thanks for dropping by.

I don't know about keeping them out totally, but it helps keep them at bay. Mosquitoes don't like the odor of marigolds. Same is true of aphids. Plant marigolds by your roses and you will keep aphids off of them.
