Why animals have tails?

tail of a cat - a tail is part of the body of n animal like cats or dogs which use is still not well known. For animals like carabaos they use their tail to blow insects away. While monkeys or tree animals use it to hang and move from one tree to another.

Create now your own theory.., i just want to know your opinion on this, cows or carabaos i know use their tails to eradicate the flies, insects..how 'bout some animals? like horse, or a cat or even a dog? Does rabbit have tails-that small thing? why, give your own idea about this... Man has no tail but the said ancestor of it has tails and use to hang from tree to tree.. Is there any animal without tail? thanks for the response, just add me as your friend (if you like^^) thanks...my pc works slowly so it is really hard to ask you to be my friend!!^^ just reply here and enjoy the stay..!!^^

this theory already exists,i have studied in science...this is called 'atavism'.Even humans used to have tails at there back but with the conyinuity of time,it disappeared. But these cases are yet to be heard, that some yrs before a child was born with a tail. we mylottians love making friends so,happy friends!

thanks...so what is the use of that..hmm...so maybe according i think to a theory of whoever, i forgot, it is just like when human is not using anything and somewhat want to get it off, then in future time, just like evolving, then it will be gone, thanks, that's a very nice call for that.."atavism", thanks..good!!^^

Animals have tails for assisting in balance and steering, propulsion, grasping, grooming (swatting flies is one example) and for display. One of the gaudiest tail displays I can think of is the male peacock's tail. Believe it or not, we still have remnants of tails because or ancestors did. This is a good example of a useful characteristic (the tail) evolving in our ancestors but not being retained in the descendants (us!) because of a loss of evolutionary selective pressure. Because we can modify our environment, it is unlikely that we will evolve to regain tails!

wow, yeah maybe, you're right it has may uses, but for us human - - maybe if we have it then we would undergo scientific procedure to eliminate it like moles..right..but if we have it..But since we don't..why bother But most animals have and you have given its purpose ..thanks, maybe i will go for balance, balancing .thanks..good!!^^
