Call Waiting: Love it? Hate it?

I have call waiting on my cell phone, but only because it's included with the voicemail package. It's actually included with my homephone as well, but I opted out of it because I dislike using it so much. It's very annoying when I call someone and we're in the middle of a conversation and suddenly they’re like, "Oh, just a sec, got another call", I feel so brushed off. Like I'm not worthy of conversing with, they needed someone else to distract them. Usually by the time they get back, we're both completely off our trains of thought and the entire sense and direction of the conversation has disappeared. My mobile is a BlackBerry, and it has the option to 'Ignore' incoming calls, including when it's a call waiting call, plus it's caller ID, so I always know who it is. I love that, it prevents my phone from beeping in my ear, and I know that someone has called so I can choose to tell the person I'm on the line with that I really need to let them go to return a call, or just continue talking at my leisure. I very rarely pick it up unless I know the incoming call will be really quick (someone letting me know where they are) or I'm expecting an important call, but even then, voicemail does a great job of taking my messages most of the time. :) What about you? Do you like call waiting or hate it?

I actually like the call waiting feature on my cell phone. If I'm on the phone with someone and it's important, then I let it go to voicemail.

I do like the call waiting but only if there is caller ID i never interupt a call with an incomming call unless it is important. I Like it on the cell phone because if i notice that it isnt a number from someone that i am waiting to hear from it will go to the voice mail.

I don't hate it nor like it too much. It's just that sometimes I find it useful if I'm waiting for another call I would know if there is somebody calling while i'm on the phone, usually I excuse my self too and hold for a second but if the 2nd call is not that important I hang on him quick and go back to the on hold call as soon as possible.

I think that call waiting is really one of the ruder innovations we have come up with. I understand why some people would need it, like doctor's on call and store managers and such but really pagers could be used instead.... then they can simply say: "I gotta go work is paging me" but, to have them turn you off to answer someone else calling, then leaving you hanging for however long, it is as though they are telling you that you are not so important to them. I really dislike call waiting.

Hi breepeace!! As per my side its very usefull..I cannot miss the important calls or some one may be need things to be done urgently or it may be a favour for me..I just look at the number while i am speaking if its an unknown number i will just ignore it for my voicemail..If its a known one sometimes i do attend their call or will call them later it depends on the conversation that i am having...Happy postings!!

Add me to the hate it list. I also have it on both my cell and home phone, but never use it. It drives me nuts when it starts beeping. I would rather the person be put directly into voicemail like my work phone does. Then my phone can beep at me when I get off the call I am on. I just think it is very rude feature to have on a phone.

I can't stand it, I honestly don't remember the last time I picked up a call from call waiting.
