Do you carry a torch with you?

Do you still have torchlights around? - Do you still have torchlights with you or at home?

I am sure where ever we live in, we have electricity readily available unlike the olden days where people use kerosene lamps or kerosene torches. I remember once there were frequent power failures. It wasn't that bad at home as we stock candles then. However, when I am outside on the way home, it is really bad. I make a point to carry a torch with me. It was a little plastic one which uses only single AAA battery. Now that the electricty is stable and there seems to be no more power failures, I leave the torch at home. I no longer carry it around. However, my friend continues to do so. He finds it more convenient having a torch around. Friends, do you still have torches at home? Or are you like my friend who carries one in his bag? Why do you carry a torch light around? What sort of torch light do you have or carry with you? Or you no longer use torches any more?

Not exactly, I use the torch in my mobile. Since that is one thing which is always with you. And no extra weight. Real good use of a mobile phone incase of emergency.

I quite often do; I even still keep candles and kerosene lamps around, because here in Florida, the electrical grid has never been very reliable, because it is the lightning capitol of the US. Add to that, the fact that the power grid has been even worse since the 3 hurricanes in one year, with another bad one the next, necessitating many repairs, reroutings, and repairs on top of repairs. The power goes out around 4 times a week nowadays. My favorite is a big 4 D-cell Mag Light. Indestructible, water resistant, extremely powerful, very reliable, and solidly built. It has an adjustable beam, and even a spare bulb stored on the end cap.

The down time is rather bad, isn't it? It definitely pays to have a strong standby light ready.

That, and I often go places where there never has been electricity, and sometimes in the dark, so having a nice light is essential.

Yes, I prefer to take one with me always...as much as possible take everything that I guess in emergency I'll be needing...like nailcutters, scissors, pen but the problem is I always forget it. sometimes I have to buy a couple of it and put it in each every bag I have... Back to the torch topic, I have a key chain that is a torch...and I always bring it... I have it in my key so i never forget it.

I guess you must be carrying a big bag around where ever you go? And you have many bags all ready packed with the basic essentials?

I love carrying all those small handy gadget in my bags everywhere. Including torch penlite (small ones of course). So, yea...I'm kinda like your friend. The habits of carrying torch light actually comes from my dad. We drive car a lot....so, it will be handy to have one as our car broke down somewhere and we need extra light too see. So, for me it's always handy to carry one.

I have a big one in the car, another big one in the house, several smaller ones, too, one is in my purse. I have kerosene lamps and lots of candles at hand in the house. The little light I have comes in handy at times when I want to see something in the dark. The other night I cam home and the bulb had burned out outdoors. I had the little torch and my key and could open up the entrance door easily this way. The broken bulb I exchanged then the next day. So little torches are not only good when the electricity is down but in every day life, too.

Yes, the little torch is handy provided it don't play you out when you need it most. At times, I was fooled by it!

Yes, bighead...I carry a torch when running for the Olympic, LOL. We called it flash light here. I have one small cute torch that I flashed when inserting the key to the main door during night time. Here in my house, there is an emergency light which automatically turned on when a black out occurred. I also have torches everywhere in my house which my girls used to play and flashed it on their face so they will looked like dracula. "grin"

During those brownouts and blackouts I used to carry on small flashlights which I can use when its night time and no electricty out side. Nowadays I dont carry it always but when I am on a seminar or on a trip far from our place I usually carry that small flashlight. I see to it also that I carry with me a lighter or a match which is also very necessary incase of emergency.

Hello, whyaskq,i have a torch at home in case there is a blackout at home,i can still survive so that i do not need to grope in dark,i use torch becasue i do not have any candles at home,it is also safer to use torches instead of candles. I will not carry any torches in my bag as i do not think i need it when I am going out.

when I was a child, I used to take a torch with me , as power failure always happened in our life. and it is so convinent that we can use it when we go to some place where no light beside the road at night . it is really a good tool for me at that time . oh, I forget to say , at that time I live in a country ,not in a city. but now I live in a city and never take it around me , when power failure happened , we will feel so bad , as there is no any light we can use . then we have to go to a shopping in the dark and buy some candle to light our room. when this happened, I will think I should take a troch with me . but after that, I will forget it and will not buy a troch with me.

No. I dont carry a torch with me all the times. But I have a torch inbuilt in my mobile and I carry my mobile with me all the times. But at home, we place the torch and the candles only at a particular place, so that it will be easy for us to locate in case of sudden electricity failure. Most of the time we were successful in locating the torch very easily with that.
