So just how do you handle pushy people?

You know the type...the ones that expect you to agree with everything they say, do everything they want you to do, cater to them no matter what your opinion is... I can be such a push over when it comes to certain people (my parents especially) yet I can assert myself quite well with other people (to the point that I become the pushy person on occassion). Where do you stand? Are you pushy or a push over? How have you stood up to pushy people?

I'm not a pushover in any way to anybody. I will tell you like it is no matter what. If you're being pushy or gripey, I will tell you. I can't stand people who try to make you feel like if you don't do something the way they do it, then you are totally in the wrong.

That's a great attitude to have. I can't stand how people make me feel sometimes when they are like that but like I said I have trouble being assertive with certain people.

I am not a pusy person at all. I hate having to ask for things, by the same token I am not a pushover. To me relationships should be two way...some give and take on both ends. When I encounter someone I refer to as a user/abuser I simply say no a little word that I know can be hard to say. Then I avoid contact with that person (obviously not something you can do with your parents). My feeling is that my time and energy are limited and I'm not going to let someone especially someone who is too pushy use up my time and energy...I have other places I'd rather spend them.

That depends... I am not a pushy person by nature, and I don't get pushy unless driven to it. I usually lean more towards being a push over, although it depends on who is doing the pushing. I would do just about anything for my family or my friends. I can be pushy at times but like I said, usually only when someone has pushed me too far first, then I may start pushing back.
