What made you fall in love with your house?

What about you? What made you fall in love with your home the first time you saw it? Wide open spaces? Good neighborhood? Nice neighbors? I knew from the second I saw my house that I loved it. That day I made my husband put a nice deposit on the house, so noone else could get it before us. The walls were painted white and everything was so clean. There were no curtains on the windows, so it made everything seem so bright and spacious. Almost four years later, the paint has dulled, and the windows need cleaning, but I still love this old place. It's not just a house, it's the home where we've raised our child. And, I'll miss it, if we ever leave!

27 years ago we drove down the street to look at the house and we passed someone walking on the pavement and they smiled at us. We looked at each other and said 'This is promising!' And it was. We have been very happy here with children, dogs, rabbits, rats, birds and other pets and wonderful neighbours. For instance, my neighbour on one side is politically diametrically opposed to me. But we are good friends and agree to differ on that subject in a very friendly way but have many other subjects where we agree and can talk happily.

It is so wonderful to have neighbors that can also be your good friends as well.

The first attraction to me was the location, because I just love the convenience of being able to go to work without hassle, and important of all, also the proximity of the house to my kids' school, plus it's walking distance to the market, to church, etc. The house itself was quite small but I don't mind because at least I don't have to wake up very early like my friends who live so far away from work.

When I was growing up, we were walking distance from our school. It was literally one block away. Very convenient. Just a quick stroll down a dirt road and we were there. Very country like setting too. I always wondered why we didn't stay there. It was idealic.

Good neighbor was the biggest selling point for me on our house. Also the people who had put it on the market had it completely cleaned and all the walls had a fresh nuetral colored paint on them. When we bought the house, we were pleasantly surprised when they came and mowed the lawn, and had professional cleaners come in and clean it again. It was ready for us just to move everything in.

What made me fall in love with my house was the potential we saw in it. Believe me, the house needed tons of work to get it to where we wanted it. But it had the basics we wanted, like 4 bedrooms instead of 3. It also had a den and a partially converted garage. We knew there was alot we could do with it. We have been in the house for 10 years now and just finished some more renovations. The house is really nice now.

I've always thought that homes are always so much nicer when you can add your own personal touches to them. I am happy that you found your little slice of heaven on earth.

We have a very large deck on the back of our house, with built in seating for about 20, which I absolutely loved! Also, we have a super large master bedroom with walk in closet and a private deck off the master bedroom. There are a lot of other things I love about our house, but those were the couple of things that sealed the deal for me.

We had just moved to Florida from the UK. We were staying with my mother-in-law and was looking for a house in a quite neighborhood. So we drove north on Hwy19 to see where it would lead us. We came upon a small town about 30 miles from where we started. We drove down this quite subdivision and I spotted this house that had a shamrock shaped front window and 2 statues of naked ladies in the front garden. We immediately fell in love with it. There was no for sale sign out side so we did not thing it was up for sale. We drove past and carried on driving around the neighborhood. We could not believe our luck when we were on our way out of the sub division, low and behold there was a for sale sign out side the house we had fallen in love with. So we bought it and have lived happily here for 10 years.

I haven't bought a house yet, but I am going to give you my opinion based on the houses I chose for renting. I am very choosy when it comes to rent a house because a house is where we going to live day in and day out. My current house is situated in a rural area. However, it is very spacious and it is a double storey kampong house. It has wide land surrounding my house. Approximately the width of the land is a little less than 1 acre. We have a lot of trees at the back and the front. When there are fruit seasons, we don't have to buy any durians, rambutans, mangosteen, mangoes, papayas, lime, langsat, buah nona, mata kucing and lots more. I am sorry I don't know some of the fruits name in English. What I like most is the rent is very cheap. My home is so peaceful and this is the life that I want. When I buy my own house, I would find something like this too.

We just bought our first house. One of the first things that I loved about it was the price. We can comfortably afford it, without having to give up anything else. I don't have to go back to work and send my child to a babysitter. Another great thing about my house, is that it has a huge yard. It has lots of room to build on later if we want to. It's not really all that big, but for just the three of us, it's fine for now. In a few years, we might comsider adding on. There's enough room in it as it is now for 2 kids, so we wouldn't have to add on until we decided to have a 3rd. We do really like the location, too. It's in a small town, and it's pretty quiet. Everyone is friendly. The house is easy to find. There are lots of built in shelves in our house. We really like the storage space. We have a big pantry in the basement, and a few shelves for food upstairs. We have built in shelves for linens and things downstairs. There are built in shelves above the washer and dryer. There are corner shelves in our spare bedroom that we really like. There are some down in the basement, too.

The first thing that I loved about my place was the view from my balcony.I am on the third floor and I have a view of a hill with other apartment buildings and trees. walked in the first time and fell in love. And my room is a little bigger than my old room. There is wall to wall carpeting. It is nice.

allow me to describe my house for you. with is northerly side built into a hill and protected by a heavy red sandstone retaining wall, the property is plit into 3 material led areas, heavey to the north, moving through light , to floating in the south. the red sandstone of the northern boundary retaining wall continues to the property interior. it features extensively in polished form in both the entrace hall and the master bathroom, where walls and floor are stone-clad. wrapping over the west wall and covering the entire house is a heavey slate roof.

When I first saw the house I have now I didn't like it at all.LOL It was really quite worn down and I had to walk through a 4 foot snow bank to get to it. When we were able to go inside and take a look around I first noticed how small my kitchen was,I wasn't impressed, and how little counter space and cupboards I had. The flooring was old and disgusting and the countertops were coming off and dangerous. I then went into our dining room which was fairly small as well but then I saw them! They were older style french doors I turned and looked at my husband and said "I want it!" LOL I went through the french doors and saw my living room which was pretty small as well because it has a large fireplace in it. We bought the house for $5000.00 and moved in within a month. We have since then removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room as well as other walls and other renovations. It is slowly becoming a fabulous house. The french doors will always be a part of it! LOL :)

Isn't it amazing how one tiny detail can make you fall in love with a place? I didn't like the size of our kitchen either, but the fact that it had three bedrooms just blew me away. For me, that was definitely a step up! I could just imagine our daughter (still in my belly at the time) running through the house and laughing. I had to snap it up quick or it would have been gone. We were so blessed to find such a large house in our city, for such an affordable amount. Normally people in our area, pay two or three times as much for such a comfortable living space as ours.

That is a good question. I think for me it was the neighbourhood. Lots of kids around and playing on the street. Don't get me wrong, the house attracted us as well, but the neighbourhood environment was what hooked us from the start. cheers,

i don't like my house in general. it gets dusty really fast since my house is right on one of the busiest streets in the city. plus, it's really old and only has one floor. i hope i can renovate it one day. the only thing makes me love it is that it's my childhood house, and i grew up in it. :D

That's how it was for us as well. We fell in love with our house the moment we saw it. It took us only 10 mins to decide to buy that house. We went straight back to the realtor's office and drew up all the papers! It had everything we wanted...3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, big yard, lots of built-in cabinets and storage areas, extremely clean and well-kept by previous owners, newly painted, nice colours, etc. It has been 2.5 years now and we're still loving this place. I will miss it too when we have to leave which I know will happen cos' we're military. So, that really sucks! :(

The only thing I was initially impressed with when I saw the house for the first time was the half acre lot and the trees. Then we walked inside, and the hard wood floors and woodwork, the solid oak doors drew me in. The clincher was the kitchen with brand new oak cabinets, a butcher block counter, brand new appliances including a dish washer, that did it for me. We told our realtor to make an offer and the next thing we knew we were buying a house. My house is really a bungalow, it has two bedrooms, a kitchen, living room, two full bathrooms and a mudroom, but we don't need anything bigger.

I loved all the windows first of all. The open floor plan and the great flow of the house coupled with the windows made it so inviting for me. But what sealed the deal was the huge family room window (floor to ceiling, about 8 feet wide) that looked out onto the beautifully landscaped backyard, that has a vine covered patio. We have been here over 10 years and I still love it!

It was simple for me; it was the home I grew up in. My husband and I were living in his cramped apartment with our one year old son. We began looking at homes and really we found nothing that really impressed us for the money. My mom was offered a very good retirement package from her company so she took and decided to move to Florida. It was our destiny to buy this home and although it needed a lot of work, we bought it and never regretted that decision.

We just loved it and knew we would enjoy living here, in this town, we love the whole section, and this area, the neigbourhood and that the beach was across the road, the school was across the bridge, everything was handy and convenient...

The environment, the pool, the sauna;) There weren't many people here then,so I guess nice neighbours wasn't it. I love my room the most, although it's crowded with unwanted furniture,I arranged it very comfortably. It's white and clean just like your walls;)
