Why do you need to submit tags on messages to individuals?

I get why we should do it on discussions but why on messages? I have never understood that so can anyone tell me what the benefit to that is?

Because you can use the tag to search by messages too. Tags can be used beyond searching for discussions. If you remember the tag you give your messages, you can use the tag to find them too. Makes the messaging system a bit more usable.:P

I think it is so if we want to look up one of our former messages, we can just type in a tag, and the correct one appears.
