How Big A Part Does Your Computer Play In Your Life?

Computer Freak - The computer, as a best friend.

Do you spend hours upon hours on your Computer each day, or do you have to go to work? Do you use the computer's facilities to stay in touch with friends and do you feel lost without it? I do... I get up, make my breakfast and a cup of green tea, then I'll log on to my Computer. I have a sort of routine, which involves checking my mail, checking Mylot and starting and responding to discussions. I am also nearing the end of some courses, I took online, and I belong to a few click sites, which I have to get up to date. Then, it's perhaps a Pogo game or two for a bit of relaxation, then back to Mylot and clicking with a few conversations intermittently with friends, on IM. I think the Computer plays a big part in my life. How about you? Do you wish you could spend more time or less time online, and how important is it to you to log in each day? Do you regard your computer as your best friend, or your worst enemy? lol

Sadly enough, I spend more time on my computer than I do with anybody or anything. Unless I'm at work you can find me sitting right in front of my laptop. Its my window to the world and without it I'd feel like I lost an appendage.

Well... sometimes I feel that way. I'm not going out so much from day to day, meeting up with friends and socialising, but I do manage once or twice a week. Thank you for your input and brightest blessings.

I regard my computer as my best friend, defintely not my worst enemy. I love love love my computer :) My laptop is my favorite because I can sit on the living room couch and play on it while I am watching a movie or tv. I have alot of online friends that I like to stay in touch with. And since I work from home, my computer is my link to the outside world most days.

I think the computer is many a man's best friend. A laptop is particularly handy because you can take it with you on holiday, use it in bed, when you're not feeling too bright and as you say, it keeps you in touch with everybody. Thank you for your input and Brightest Blessings.

You know darkwing, I was seriously in need of spending more time here at mylot. My email have close to 1000 mail notification of friend's discussions. I used to be pretty hyped up with the community and my face was almost glued to my computer screen, LOL. Not anymore. I started to lay low for a month already and rarely post discussion. I tried to log in from time to time just to catch up with all the pending discussions. One day of not logging in here means I have to work doubly hard the next day. I consider my computer as a source of connecting to all my friends all over the world. Plus the fact that it also helps me to make my online time more profitable.

It's quite true what you say, Charms, my friend. If you let things go by for half a day, it starts to pile up on top of you! Thank you for your input and Brightest Blessings. x

My computer is a rather large part of my life. I do work for a living and spend 5 days a week at the office on the computer as I work in IT. I have been using computers for well over 20 years now and they have played a huge part of my life throughout my career and I've had a personal computer at home for 10 years now with internet access. I do wish I could spend less time online and some of the time I spend online I really should be doing stuff like exercising LOL!

I think we all should take some time out to do other things, Anonymili. I have plenty of other things to do but when my butt starts to ache and my eyes get sore, I do get up and have about an hour or so break. Sometimes, I pop down to the pub for a quick drink and a chat with friends, and others, different people keep coming in and I stay there for hours! lol. Hence, the work piles up and it takes me even longer on here to get to a position where I can take a break. Brightest Blessings.

I dont go on the computer every day. Most days though. I have so much other stuff to do, but i do wish i could spend more time on it. I really enjoy being here on mylot, i find it relaxing and fun. It is of great comfort to me too, and i feel i have made some good friendships. I also enjoy some simple games on yahoo, and i like msn, to catch up with friends. Best wishes to you, Darkwing

You come under the category of "good friend" as well, Kay. I agree there are a lot of nice people in Mylot, and I love spending time with them, too. I must say, you're very controlled to actually go off and do the other things that need doing. I tend to put them off for a while, if there's a lot to do on here. he he he. Brightest Blessings, my friend. x

I enjoy being on my computer. I am a writer, so I rely on my computer to help me accomplish my tasks. Yet, the computer is not the most important item in my life. I have to make sure that I balance my time on the computer with doing my errands, my chores around the house and know that there are times that I am going to attend events at my church and spend time with my friends. Unfortunately, there are people who have an urge to stay on the internet every waking moment they have. Years ago, I had a roommate who would rather stay on the computer than go out and meet new friends, etc. His computer was his friend, but he was good at what he did when it came to the computer. I also do internet marketing and look at what can bring me a little extra money so that my wife will have extra should something happen to me.

I do take time out to meet up with friends and socialise a bit on a couple of days a week, but I wish I was as organised and self-disciplined as you. I do spend far too much time on here... not exactly every waking moment, but too much time. That's very sweet of you, providing for your wife should something happen to you. What a lovely thought. Just for that, I'm awarding a +. Brightest Blessings.

I don't honestly think i would still be sane if it weren't for this laptop , As you know pal have quite a few people to care for , I look at my E-Mails first thing in the morning while I am having my only cup of coffee in the day , then I get showered and dressed and do what I have to that day , later on I am back here chatting with all my friends on MY Lot , I kid you not this laptop does actually keep me sane . it is my escape from problems and I am lost without it , I can go upstairs to the desktop one but I like siting her on my armchair with it , take care my friend xxx

I'm much the same as you Darkwing. I get up very early, so as to have some time to myself, make coffee and turn the computer on. I go and tend to the animals at 6am, then when my first session is over I shower and do some chores etc. I sometimes sit here for 3x4 hour sessions a day! I bank on-line, shop, talk to my grandchildren, keep in touch with other family and play and spend time with friends on Neopets. It's a good thing I found this marvellousy comfy office chair! LOL.
@Darkwing (21583)

Oh, I sit here for far longer than three or four hours in the evening. I never watch television... would much rather be on here with friends. I wish I had found a really comfy office chair. Mine's getting a bit old and hard seated now. lol. Brightest Blessings.

When I get up in the morning, I use the computer while I eat breakfast, and then again after I have made my lunch to take to work. When I get to work, I log onto the computer here, and stay on it till I leave. When I get home, I usually get my laptop out after dinner, and do some work online for a bit, or play some games. I really wish I didn't have to be so attached to my computer, because there is a lot of other stuff that I would like to get done. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of free time, and I usually have lots to do on the computer every day.

The computer takes up a big chunk of my time. I sit every day at my computer for hours. but it saves me a lot of time, too and it saves me a lot of money. The computer is my friend if you consider a machine a friend. It is a must these days and I could not imagine living without it. And of course, I want to be up to date.
@Darkwing (21583)

Yes, me too, and that's a good way to look at it, that it saves you a lot of time and money. I never think that way, but you're right. Brightest Blessings.

It plays a huge part of my life. Everyday, when I wake up, the first thing I do is to turn it on. I access all mails and all schedules for the day. Almost all of my friends communicate to me here or on my cellphone. Whenever I try not to open my pc for a day. There's so many things I would forget and messages will flood my email address. Plus, I monitor my work here. It keeps me well updated about the information I need for my job and for the rest of my activities. In short, it pretty much plays a huge part of my life.
@Darkwing (21583)
30 Jun 07
Yes, I think you're amongst the majority too, Laydee. I don't know where we would be now without our computers, as they have become a way of life for many. Those who are housebound or past working age, lonely, or missing somebody, always know they can switch on and become part of a huge, worldwide community. Brightest Blessings.

I'm hoping that someday, I wouldn't be too attached with computers. I feel that life passes me by when I keep on facing the computer the whole day. I must learn to do things without them someday.

Yes, I've started to take time out occasionally and I feel better for it. I know that it's there when I come back, and I do still rely on it, but hey... you have to catch up with your online friends each day, don't you?

My computer plays a huge role in my life. Most of the money I earn is because of the computer- Mylot, Blogit, Cashposting, and Triond. I write tons of emails and belong to many email list. All of which connect me to friends and various communities. I'm using the computer now to find festivals to sell my 'zines at. It's really helpful to me in finding them.

Hello,darkwing,i spend alot of time on the computer at home everyday but i do not need it at my workplace.During the weekdays,i will spend few hours per day for checking emails,replying in mylot and browsing some other websites,i may spend longer time in mylot at the weekends if i do not go out with my friends. I have spent less time on the cimputer these days since i have gone out with my friends more often.

The computer plays a very big part in my life. I write website articles and it is pretty well a full time job. My office is beside my bedroom so in the morning, I boot up the computer and go downstairs to make a cup of tea. Buy the time I return the computer is ready to go and I check my sites to see what articles have been taken and how much money I earned overnight. I spend some time answering emails and comments and then head downstairs to shower, clean the house, and after lunch I am back here again going research, taking notes, and preparing my next article for submission. I stop in time to make supper and after the dishes are done and the house is quiet, I am back at the keyboard for another couple of hours before going to bed. I am disabled (FM) and not able to work outside the home so I thank God for the person who had the smarts to invent the computer and the Internet.
@Darkwing (21583)
30 Jun 07
Wow... so you work a full time job from home, really. Well done... that's a bit of a feat, especially when you're disabled. Thank you for your input and Brightest Blessings.

Well, I hate to say this but computer is a big part of my life because it is my job. I work on the computer for 8 hours a day at the office I work at. Without the computer I wouldn't ahve a job and couldn't pay my bills or buy my son "treats". Mind you though when I am at home and away from work I hate to be near the computer.

I used to work on one all day as well, but now, I just have this one at home, and I do tend to spend an awful lot of time on it. Brightest Blessings.
