Summer is officially here. It is now Time for all those fairs and festivals to get into full swing in your neighborhood. Everyone is outside and stopping to eat at those booths that goes from one even to the other. No doubt you have already had caramel apples this summer. It seems they sell well at all festivals and fairs. The problem is that they are expensive...very expensive. Well if you love caramel apples, you will love this easy crockpot recipe to make caramel apples. They are delicious and are just so easy to make. Everyone one will love them and you will save lots of money compared to those food stands. Crockpot Caramel Apples 2 (14 ounce) packages caramels 1/4 cup water 8 apples 8 sticks Toppings: nuts, M&Ms, mini chocolate chips, candy decorations Grease a strip of wax paper, long enough for all the apples; set aside. In crockpot, combine caramels and water. Cover and cook on HIGH for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, stirring frequently. Wash and dry apples. Insert stick into stem end of each apple. Turn crockpot to LOW. Dip apple into hot caramel and turn to coat entire surface. Holding apple above pot, scrape off excess caramel from bottom apple. Place on greased wax paper to cool. Once the caramel has set, roll the apples in the toppings of your choice. Now how easy was that? And they are just so yummy

I haven't had one in a very long time. We never bought them though, my mom made them from scratch. I remember one day I forgot my lunch on the bus and when I left for the day and boarded the bus, I found my lunchbox, complete with ruined caramel apple. I cried a little because those were treats we couldn't usually afford to make, and I felt like I let my mom down. Gosh, I was way too emotional as a child! But they sure do bring back great memories. And making them the way you mentioned, would be a great way of starting a new tradition. Whether it be kids or grandkids, odds are they will love it, and secretly, we will too. : )

I starting reading this discussion because it was yours . I was thinking I would not reply because I have not bought Carmel apples in years. I hesitate to make them because the apple usually tastes so sour after biting through all the sweet caramel. However after reading your recipe I have to comment . I have never heard of using a crock pot to make caramel apples before but it sounds like a perfect way to make sure the stuff doesn't burn . Great idea. And all the toppings your mentioned to put on top of the candy sounds so good. it is 2am and now I am hungry and after reading about them.

Hey. In New Zealand we call these delicious treats "Toffee Apples" and these treats we would usually find at Gala Days, Side Shows, or Fun Fairs and Festivals... Ive never tried to make these at home, and since Ive had a root canal, I hardly eat them, but i do know they are very delicious... Thanks for the recipe...
