The weather is warm, the children are restless...what do you treat them to?

Do you drag out a sprinkler/pool to occupy the little one's time? Do you make homemade cool treats to soothe the heat? Do you have certain "traditional" summertime activities that you attend to each year? What is your secret to occupying the time of the younger ones ( under 10) in your household? Are they allowed countless hours in front of the computer/tv/playing video games? Or do you have your day segmented for activities indoors ( reading/playing) and outdoors ( ball, bicycle riding)? Of all that you do for and with them..what is the most special? We have a movie night outside a couple of times a summer...with a projector showing on a huge sheet hanging on the side of the house...and the sound set up by my husband... my grandchildren love this and look forward to it each year...we rent a special movie/dvd and have popcorn and movie treats while laying on blankets and sitting in comfy chairs moved out for the occasion...What are your summmer traditions or fun ideas..big or small...won't you share?

Well I live in Florida. It is very very hot in the summer time. So outdoor play time is limited. But the kids do get to go outside for about 2 hours to play in the pool and sprinklers. The rest of the day is spent indoors playing games, coloring, and they are allowed a little tv time while I am cleaning or sitting at the computer.

It is difficult when the heat is oppressive and the children want to play in it!!! Art projects are something I encourage my grandchildren to do when they can't be outside...they are also big fans of building "forts" inside...so my knees get a good workout when we have to crawl through the openings!!!

I used to have the Pool out for my 2 and I used to sit in the Garden with them while they playing in the Pool At others time I used to take them to an open Air Swimming Pool which I used to love. I used to spend a lot of time at the Swimming pool myself as a Child in hot weather
