I moved to Michigan from Florida and had a really strong country accent. The people from Michigan never took me seriously and actually thought that I was a little slow as they associate country with dumb! I learned to keep the country out but every now and then a country word would creep in. One of my supervisors even said, "I know that you are from the south so I will speak slower!" Do you think honestly that if someone speaks with a country accent that they are slow? Have you had this experience if you do have a country accent

No, I don't believe if you have a country accent that they are slow. I come Texas, so I had that Texas twang going, when I was little and we moved to Colorado, I was put in speach therapy because they thought I had a speach impedimetn. It took a specialist to tell the school the only problem I had was the TX accent. So I do understand what your going to. I now live in Minnesota and it still comes out sometimes but people here aren't so judgemental.

LOL! OMG! It makes you think that the people are slow instead of us! I really pick up things quickly so country accent and all I can beat you at most things! I am a social worker and so when they dont like you they try to get you to quit by placing more and more work on you. Or they try to catch with your pants down on something, you will make a mistake but they capitalize on stuff! At the last job that I had with God's help, I was always in the right place at the right time to hear some information to keep me out of trouble, or the holy spirit would tell me not to go and do certain things but to have this paperwork ready for whenever they asked for it! They tried so hard to fire me, its funny looking back on it!

You know the best thing about the results was when they had to tell my mom I had to skip a grade, because I needed to be challenged. My mom with her usual sarcasm responded on no not my child she's slow remember you can't understand a thing she says. Ha ha

I'm from the Appalachian mountains, but neither of my parents has a strong accent, so my own accent is subtle enough that even if people pick up on it they might not be able to identify it. I would be terribly offended if someone said they would speak slower for me. Usually it's my choice of words and phrases that stand out, but I've never had anyone thing I was slow.

I am from Michigan and have never considered people from the south slow. Yes,we may all talk alittle different and I might not be able to understand every word, but that is not a reflection on anyones intelligence level.
