What Sicknesses Do You Worry About Inheriting From Your Family?

I worry about getting cancer a lot because so many people in my family has died from it. My mom died of breast cancer, when I was ten, my aunt died when I was thirteen. Then I had another aunt die in 2004. Now my aunt in Detroit got a kidney removed due to cancer. There were five sisters in the beginning and there is only one left that has not had cancer and she is the oldest. It can from my grandfather's side of the family. About eight of his brothers died of cancer. He had cancer, but it was contained in a sac where it could not harm him. He lived for like 20 years with it and then died of a heart attack. So, you can imagine why mentioning the word cancer in my family is taboo. All my life, I have been afraid to talk about my fears, for fear that I would get it. I guess, now I am ready to break my silence. Everytime I see anything that mentions cancer, I run from it. I don't feel that it is inevitable that I get it, but I am just tired of it being in my family. Losing people that you love to such a horrible disease is so traumatizing. You slowly watch them waste away and there is nothing that you can do to help them. Everyone keeps talking about all these weird things that you have to do to prevent it, but none of it ever works. The most sickening part about this whole thing is that no matter how many people in my family die, my family just snaps back and keeps smiling like they have no idea that it could happen to them. They treat me as if I am weak and feeble minded and no one should tell me the bad news, because I can't handle it. Well, maybe I can't handle it. Maybe the affects of cancer are too devastating for me. The only problem is, at some point, they have to stop whispering and tell me the truth.

I worry a lot about heart disease and Alzheimer disease. There is quite a bit of both in my family. My husband's mom passed away with cancer a few years ago. I worry myself sick about the thought of him getting cancer. He takes after his mom so much and that's why it worries me. Most people think it's silly to worry about that, but he's my husband and my life, of course I'm going to worry. You are not weak and you are by no means feeble minded for having the fear of cancer. You are strong for being open minded enough to realize cancer is a reality that many people face. It doesn't make you weak. It takes courage to speak up about fears that have been embedded in our minds for so many years. Continue building up your courage and leave in in God's hands.:)

I heard too that green tea helps a lot. I am glad to hear that you are healthy. I need to spend more time exercising myself. Sitting in front of this computer all the time is doing a number on me, LOL.

I seeno valid reason whay you should be worrying. Firstly, cancer isn't a heridetary disease. You get it only because of your life style and exposure to carcinogenic agents. So don't worry. Just try to chill out. Any way we all pray for you, a precautionary measure

Don't be so modest, it's not nearly as flattering as you think it is.

Every female in my maternal family is FAT and that has been my constant nightmare, so I has literally turned into a gym freak!

Sounds like you have a little resentment towards them for being over-weight. I would forgive them. It is not a personal weakness, it is a disease.
