So here I am trying to make an honest effort to catch up and respond to you folks who gave responses to my earlier discussions...I got so behind when I had to shut down my computer while we had that terrible thunderstorm...and I STILL haven't caught up. Well now I'm typing this almost one-handed...I did some heavy grocery shopping yesterday to stock up on all the heavy stuff, so took my shopping wagon with me..By heavy I mean I bought a 20-lb. bag of cat litter, 3-gallon sized bottles of water, containers of juice, PLUS some "regular" groceries...I try to do a lot of my shopping in one day--So this is really nothing for me...I do this kind of thing at least once or twice a month Now you have to picture I live in an apartment building with no elevator and one has to trek up flights of stairs, and I'm on the second floor...I do try to divide up the load by taking out some of the groceries a little at a time and its up and down, up and down, up and down...gee, get my cardiovascular exercise this way...LOL..So I still had that 20-lb litter to haul up--hope those brats of mine appreciate that, but at least it lasts a whole month...Anyway I obviously must have grab and lugged up the wagon with the litter the "wrong" way....must have pulled something near the joint of my hand --like pain?? Holy moly! I have my right hand bandaged up like a mummy to keep it immobile a bit--but it's taking me forever to type anything...So, so much for trying to catch up th way I'd like.. Have you ever experienced something like this?...pull a muscle or tendon or whatever cause you over-did it a bit?...isn't it frustrating?? Ah--the joys of getting older--LOL

First day of teaching horsebackriding. One of the students is jerking her foot forward & really not getting a good kick in on the horse's side. I reach over to show her how to kick the horse properly & she jerks her foot forward right into my hand!!! Broke my thumb! My RIGHT thumb!!! I can't hardly do ANYTHING I'm so right handed!

OW! I feel for you (having my own wrist problem). Take care and try not to use it too much. If it's still painful tomorrow you might want to consult a medico.

No--didn't go to a doc...my hand is fine now...I have this stuff called Miracle Ice...it's a pain relieving salve...then place a sage compress and bandaged my hand up and had that on all night...now it's fine, but will still take it easy so not too re-aggravate it--in other words no heavy cleaning for awhile

Oh goodness!! You're luck is about as good as mine! I hope it feels better soon and you only strained it instead of doing some serious damage. Luckily I haven't done anything like this...yet LOL. I know my days coming. I feel for you though trying to grocery shop and having to walk up all those steps!!

Oh you poor love...where's a big strong bloke when you need one? LOL. I can sympathise with you as I have an old injury around the thumb joint on my right hand that has begun playing up. The simplest things are difficult...brushing my hair, doing the dishes, vacuuming. The pain can get quite severe. People have said it's rsi from using the computer but I have carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands and since I stopped work the symptoms have abated. This pain has become bad since the other symptoms have lessened. I think it's some form of arthritis, I only used to get the pain when I did heavy work and used my hand a certain way, now it's there all the time to a lesser or greater degree. It's really bringing me down as it even hurts when I'm trying to go to sleep. Yes it's frustrating and also debilitating and depressing!

Gotta get me some sage..how much do you use? Do you know of a product called WD40? It has some interesting uses...I've been meaning to try it. I'll send the info in an email. Hugs. Is it better now?

What really helped me was my "remedy"--I placed some Miracle Ice on my hand then covered it with a sage compress...then wrapped my hand like a mummy..hehe..the next day it was fine...I do tend to swear by these sage compresses...just boil water, add sage and let steep...drain it through a sieve that has cheesecloth or even paper towel in it and have the liquid in a container then chill...feels great! It's an old remedy my great-grandmother used--it's even good for carpal tunnel

This used to happen to me more frequently when I was younger for I always pushed myself to hard when I was trying to learn something new in gymnastics class. I used to have permanent black and blues in some key spots and big holes in my hands where the skin was always torn out. I am a lot more careful with myself now because I am not in the best of shape due to how badly I treated myself back then. My ankles are so bad I will fall down if I step on anything uneven. At my age I break too easily so I have to be careful.

yeah I pulled muscles before, the weirdest one was when my whole ribcage hurt and I totally thought I broke my ribs or something even though I didn't really do anything to brake my ribs. I went to the doctor and he told me I pulled my ribcage muscles, I had to take some motrin for pain cause it hurt to breath. It went away after like 3 weeks so good luck with your hand it will be a while, give it rest and take some painkillers if you can.

Oh my goodness pyewacket, I don't even have to do much to pull a muscle. I've done it just by stretching the wrong way.lol. Sometimes I will just sleep the wrong way and I will be in pain for days. I hope your hand feels better soon.

I'm almost one-hundred percent better already--thank goodness I seem to be a fast healer...I've had my share of carpal tunnel so what I do is apply this salve on my hand, then a cold sage compress and bandage my hand like a mummy--LOL--works everytime....I'm still taking it easy though..won't lift anything heavy for awhile yet

You know when I lived in Philadelphia and lived in a high rise apartment building, with an elevator, I used to have to do the same thing, until I found out about http://www.petsmart.com/ and they deliver to you and they even accept Paypal, so no more carrying the 20 lbs bags of cat food or litter, it was delivered to me, what a deal. You probably need to soak that thumb in some epson salt, probably pulled it out of joint and any movement from it will probably cause you pain, might take a week or so to be able to use it again. You know, this past weekend I was helping my boyfriend with a very heavy, very large gate that encloses the area surrounding our barn, well needless to say I have been in bed with a heating pad since it happened, unsure what I did, but I pulled something in my leg that won't allow me to stand on it for any length of time. So I know how you feel, just when you think you have it under control, you go and hurt yourself, again!! Be well, my friend!

Aww black cat. Just lick your bandage paw and it will be back in good shape right away, LOL. Poor you! It must be frustrating to pound on your keyboard using one paw only. No worry there now. I'm a very patient bunny and it doesn't matter if you comment back on my response next year, LOL. Take some more rest will you and you can start rocking again using your two paws. :)

i had problems with my wrist like that when i did hotel dishwashing-flipping the racks. it seemed when i swung the weight around it did something to the wrist itself and it would hurt just like that. OT-i can't believe your litter lasts a month..my "kids" go through 2 of those... my garbageman must think i have a tiger somewheres.

First of all I want you to repeat after me I am not old, I am not old. Now take a deep breath. You hand a house hold accident. I have never hurt my wrist but I have spranged my ankle at a friends home falling off of her side walk, I have done a lot of other injuries to myself. Good luck with your wrist. If it does not get better, go to the doctor. Please

Ouch! I bet it does hurt. Hopefully it won't last to long. I'd try ice on it for a bit. I have tendonitis, and on ocassion it flares up, and the pain shoots up my whole arm. It usually last about a week.

Well I'm joining you in the pain club. Last night I pulled my shoulder blade out while exercising. Don't even know how it happened. It even hurts to cough. My grandkids have been helping me out of the chair, and heating up my rice sock, ice, and brining me dinner. Hope you feel better tonight.

First the knees go, and it's downhill from there! I live in a very old Victorian house so it is one stair way to the stairway to the porch; then the stairway to the porch; then the stairway to the side entrance, then the stairway to my porch. Grocery shopping is not my favorite thing either. Again, I will plug the product All Small and Mighty! A big thank you to them for concentrating laundry detergent and making it easier to carry. And, yes, I have fibromyalgia and hurt for several days after a shopping trip. I also get a "thing" in my wrist (it could be carpal tunnel) that when it does what it does it makes me scream out loud. That mostly happens when I use a stapler. That is also why I have invested in a lot of paper clips. ~Donna

Ouch - sounds painful. Not sure if I've ever specifically pulled a muscle from overdoing it - I'm far too lazy to overdo anything - LOL! But I do notice I can't stand for every long these days without getting "twinges" in my back, which I guess is old age creeping up on me. Last week I went to imbledon to watch some tennis. As a teenager, I used to be able to stand for hours to watch my favourites - but now I find that after about 10 minutes standing on one of the outside, non-seated courts, I have to find somewhere to sit down because my back starts hurting! I hope your hand gets better soon.

It usually ends up being my leg or my back that I do in by lifting that heavy stuff. My back from the lifting, and the leg from tripping myself up trying to carry all the heavy stuff into the house. LOL
11 Jul 07
You take your time hun, and take it easy too. I also have to struggle up stairs with shopping sometimes, and it kills my knees and my back on occasion. My mates suggested I got a chair lift fitted in the house - grrrrr.
